The aim of the Bay of Plenty Sports Awards is to recognise outstanding achievements, performances and services in the Bay of Plenty sporting community between 1stOctober 2016 and 30th September 2017.There are separate nomination forms for Club, Service to Sport and Secondary School nominations. Service to Sport nominations must come from the Regional Sports Organisation.

OPEN AWARDS

INTERNATIONAL SPORTSPERSONOF THE YEAR

Open to any male or female individual who has excelled internationally in one or more sports

  • An outstanding Sportsperson who has performed to an exceptional level internationally in the 2016/17 specified year
  • Evidence of an affiliation to the Bay of Plenty, (e.g. Born, and/or educated here, and/orresident (for a minimum period of 5 years).
  • Evidence of representation for the Bay of Plenty in their chosen sport, where the opportunity exists.
  • The winner of this award is not eligible for the Supreme Award.

BAYLEYS REAL ESTATE SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR

Open to any male21 years of age and over who has excelled in one or more sports.

  • An outstanding Sportsman who has performed to an exceptional level in the 2016/17 specified year.
  • A sportsman who has represented the region with distinction.
  • Has performed with a sense of fair play.
  • Has made a contribution as an ambassador to the sport and the region.

HOLLAND BECKETTLAWYERS SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR

Open to any female21 years of age and over who has excelled in one or more sports.

  • An outstanding Sportswoman who has performed to an exceptional level in the
    2016/17 specified year.
  • A sportswoman who has represented the region with distinction.
  • Has performed with a sense of fair play.
  • Has made a contribution as an ambassador to the sport and the region.

BAYTRUST COACH OF THE YEAR

Open to any coach who has excelled in one or more sports.

  • Has made an outstanding contribution in the area of coaching in the
    2016/17 specified year.
  • Achieved results at the highest possible level within their sport.
  • Has showed an innovative approach to coaching.
  • Has made a contribution as an ambassador to the sport and the region.
  • Has performed with a sense of fair play.

OFFICIAL OF THE YEAR

Open to any official, referee or umpire who has excelled in one or more sports.

  • Has made an outstanding contribution in the area of officiating / umpiring /

refereeing in the 2016/17 specified year.

  • Achieved results at the highest possible level within their sport.
  • An official who is consistently mentioned by players as being fair and consistent.
  • Has made a contribution as an ambassador to the sport and the region.

JUNIOR TEAM OF THE YEAR

Open to junior teams where all members are under 21 years of age competing in a junior competition (Under 21 and below - not open) that have performed to exceptional standards during the year.

  • An outstanding Junior Team who has performed to an exceptional level in the 2016/17 specified year.
  • A junior team who has represented the region with distinction.
  • The team performed with a sense of fair play.
  • Has made a contribution as an ambassador to the sport and the region.

TEAM OF THE YEAR

Open to teams that have performed to exceptional standards during the year.

  • An outstanding Team who has performed to an exceptional level in the

2016/17 specified year.

  • A team who has represented the region with distinction.
  • The team performed with a sense of fair play.
  • Has made a contribution as an ambassador to the sport and the region.

VODAFONE JUNIOR SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR

Open to any young man/woman who is no longer attending school education

and is aged between of 16 - 20 years as at 01 October 2016 who has excelled

in one or more sports.

  • Nominees must be no longer attending school education.
  • An outstanding junior Sportsman who has performed to an exceptional level

in the 2016/17 specified year.

  • A junior sportsman who has represented the region with distinction.
  • Has performed with a sense of fair play.
  • Has made a contribution as an ambassador to the sport and the region.

EVES REALTY JUNIOR SPORTSWOMAN OF THE YEAR

Open to any young man/woman who is no longer attending school education

and is aged between of 16 - 20 years as at 01 October 2016 who has excelled

in one or more sports.

  • Nominees must be no longer attending school education.
  • An outstanding Junior sportswoman who has performed to an exceptional level

in the 2016/17 specified year.

  • A junior sportswoman who has represented the region with distinction.
  • Has performed with a sense of fair play.
  • Has made a contribution as an ambassador to the sport and the region.

All nominations must be endorsed by the appropriate governing Regional Sports Organisation.

Where there is no Regional Sports Organisation for a particular sport, a decision should be

made unanimously by the majority of the sports clubs in the BOP area.
