Online Coaching/Training Communications Tool

The Wyoming SPDG has developed an online communications tool that allows Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) staff to contact and track communications with school principals and coaches re trainings, resources, and on-site visits and to collect evaluation information from the schools participating in the SPDG process. The site also allows school principals and coaches to contact WDE and request technical assistance (TA). The site is an efficient way for communicating with individual and multiple schools, for referring TA requests to the proper staff person, and for collecting evaluation feedback from those schools who have received TA.

Target audience: Anyone who has a coaching component to their program(s)
Presenters: Susan Shipley, Project Director, and Susan Wagner , Evaluator, Wyoming SPDG

RtI Implementation Survey and a Braiding School Initiative Data Audit Tool

Montana will present two tools - RtI Implementation Survey and a Braiding School Initiative Data Audit Tool. The Implementation Survey has been used in identifying where schools and districts are in the process of scaling up RtI in their local areas. Data from the first two years of use may be available. As Montana starts the Braiding of RtI and PBIS, the Data Audit Tool has been designed to assist local sites in reviewing and discussing data in the areas of academic achievement, discipline and special education placement over a three year period.
Target Audience: Participants who have identified RtI or PBIS as one of their SPDG Goals

Electronic Newsletter

Utah is using an electronic newsletter to provide a flow of information to educators. We are scouring the state and country and share with our readers the latest, most useful information and research-evidenced practices (especially SPDG practices!) that will make a positive influence on students with special needs. Examples will be shared with information on how to create similar resources in your state. Here is the website link to show an example:
We have a general interest focus on the home page. There are also a number of categories, two that the SPDG contributes: 1) PBIS and Multi tiered system of Supports (RTI), and 2) Coaching and Induction. Educators can subscribe to one or more of the e-newsletters.
Target Audience: Project staff who want to provide information to stakeholders on a frequent basis.
Presenter: Bruce Schroeder, Project Director, and other members of the Utah SPDG team

Literacy Project Tools

Assessing Evidence-Based Practices - This tool is to assist LEA staff in determining if practices they are considering are evidence-based. This has a much broader use and has been developed by our department as part of its partnership with SISEP and is used for PBIS, RTI, literacy, other curricular areas.
Evidence-based High Growth Tool - This tool is used by LEA staff to determine to different levels of support that are needed to successfully implement an evidence-based practice. Again this has much broader applicability than literacy.
Program Mapping Tool- This tool is one that was specially developed for the SPDG aligned literacy project which brings together general and special educators in an LEA as they look comprehensively at their literacy curricula and determine whether they offer a complete continuum of curricula to address all of the literacy needs of all learners, including those with severe disabilities. This tool is used with a PLC of LEAs in our aligned literacy project.
Target Audience: Directors or Coordinators. Evaluators may also be interested, since the tools could assist them in evaluating the implementation of projects at the LEA or SEA level.
