Official Contest Rules & Information

The Farm to School Recipes for Success contest is designed to find and share the most innovative projects and ideasin Northeast Farm to School programs. We’re not looking for cooking recipes, but for great activities, lessons, strategies and projects that improve food and farm education, school meal programs, farm to school connections and more.

Winners & Prizes

  • The contest will award four top prizes:
  • 1st prize: $300 cash for a Farm to School program
  • (2) 2nd prizes: $100 cash for a Farm to School program
  • Seven winners (one from each state) will also receive free registration at the Farm to Institution Summit in April and a chance to present your winning recipe at the conference.
  • Winners will be announced on March 13, 2015
  • The Northeast Regional Steering Committee (RSC) of the National Farm to School Network will selecttop “recipes”to receive prizes and be included in a “cookbook” of great ideas.
  • In the event that a prize winner is ineligible or does not respond within 10 business days of notification, the prize will be forfeited and the RSC may choose whether to award another entrant.

Eligibility

  • Any person participating inFarm to School activitiesin the Northeast region (ME, NH, MA, VT, NY, CT, RI) is eligible to enter the contest. That means students, parents, teachers, food service staff, farmers, residents, supporting organizations and more!
  • The person officially entering the competition be 18 years of age or older or must have a parent’s permission.
  • Individuals may enter the competition as many times as they like.
  • Employees of FINE and the RSC state lead organizations are not eligible to win prizes, but we welcome them to add recipes to the contest. They may be selected to present ideas at the Farm to Institution Summit and recipes may be included in the final publication.

Selection Criteria

  • Impact: How well the idea impacts education, health & nutrition, local foods, farms and agriculture, and community connections.
  • Originality: How unique and creative the idea is, and how it may spark innovative thinking about Farm to School.
  • Replicability: How easily the idea can be replicated or adapted for use in other Northeast Farm to School programs.
  • Entry Quality: How clear and compelling is the entry? Is the entry complete and easy to follow?

Submissions

  • All entries must be submitted via the online contest submission form at
  • All entries must be received by 11:59 PM EST on March 2, 2015.
  • Contest entrants must have signed photo release forms on file for any people appearing in photos before the photos are submitted, granting permission for online sharing.(Click HERE to download a photo release template)
  • Multiple “recipes” from the same entrant may be chosen to feature at the Summit and in the Cookbook, but each entrant is only eligible to win one prize.
  • Submissions must be actual projects that your program has implemented or started (rather than just ideas).
  • You must have the rights to use and share all content submitted with your entry, including photos and text.
  • By submitting an entry, you give the contest producers (FINE and the Northeast Regional Steering Committee of the National Farm to School Network) the unrestricted right to use, adapt and share (online or in print) any content that you submit. Top recipes will be posted and shared on a website.
