BRAXTON COUNTY
BOARD OF EDUCATION
January 31, 2017
The Braxton County Board of Education met on Tuesday, January 31, 2017at the Board
Office. The followingmembers were present:
Jill Cooper, President
Dave Hoover, Vice President
Shane Brown
Van Carr
Brad Shingler
A work session for Head Start Training was led by Christina Bailey and Carla Mauser
beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Jill Cooper called the regular meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
Jill Cooperled the Pledge of Allegiance.
Dave Hoover offered a non-denominational prayer.
Community Care had a presentation on dental and mental health.
Dave Hoover moved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the Consent Agenda items
(January 17, 2017 meeting minutes, payment of bills, budget transfers and supplements,
transportation requests and treasurer’s report).
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Van Carr moved and Dave Hooverseconded to ratify and extend administrative leave with
pay pending conclusion of investigation involving administrator.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Shane Brownmoved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the following employment/
reassignments – Professional:
1. Rachel Butcher – LD/BD/MI/AU Teacher (Itinerant) at BCMS effective February 1, 2017
2. Emily Parlett – Substitute Teacher effective February 1, 2017
3. Kayla Rose – 6th Grade Teacher at Burnsville Elementary effective February 1, 2017
4. Marlo Hornsby – Occupational Therapist (1/2 Time) effective beginning of 2017-18 school
year
5. Cynthia Miller – Substitute Teacher effective February 1, 2017
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover and Shane Brown seconded to approve the following employment/
reassignments – Service:
1. Priscilla Cosner – Substitute Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide effective
February 1, 2017
2. Ginger Crow – Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide ½ time at Sutton Elementary
and Accountant II ½ time at BCHS effective February 1, 2017
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Brad Shingler moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the following extracurricular
assignments:
1. Jeffrey McMillion - $1 Assistant Baseball Coach at BCHS effective February 1, 2017
2. Travis McMillion - $1 Assistant Baseball Coach at BCHS effective February 1, 2017
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the removal of the following
names from the substitute service personnel lists who did not work 50% of callout for 2016-17
school year effective February 1, 2017:
1. Holly Patrick – Substitute Aide
2. Stacy McNemar – Substitute Aide
3. Jessica Cutlip – Substitute Aide
4. Randall Boggs – Substitute Bus Operator
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded to approve the following resignation –
Service:
Amanda Criner – Substitute Aide effective February 1, 2017
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Van Carr seconded the following requests for leave of absence –
Professional:
1. Kayla Lynn – extension of leave of absence until released by physician
2. Stephanie Moore – Maternity leave from mid-March until released by physician
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Shane Brownmoved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve fundraisers for Burnsville
Elementary, Flatwoods Elementary,Sutton Elementary, BCMS and BCHS.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Brad Shingler moved and Van Carr seconded to approve February 20, 2017 as make-up
day for snow day on January 6, 2017.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Shane Brown moved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the waiver for Math Program
at BCHS.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Van Carr seconded to approve posting a CLASS Coach position for
Head Start.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Van Carr seconded to adjourn.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 5:35p.m.
