OBA Club League Final Results 06-07
The OBA Club League has concluded with a commanding win for St Magnus Badminton Club out of an entry of six teams. The winning team is made up of juniors, albeit three of the players have ably represented Orkney at senior county level. St Magnus won the league trophy without losing a fixture and only conceding a few games. It is a credit to the youngsters and very encouraging for the future of Orkney badminton.
There was a very closely contested ‘battle’ for second place between the Airport Fire Services, Finstown and Orphir A. Finstown and the Airport Fire Services team ended on equal points but Finstown narrowly secured second place by winning three more games over the whole season. Finstown displayed the usual mix of determination and experience and it is good to see the Airport sporting a strong works entry in the league again.
Orphir’s entry of two teams reflects the strength of their club. It is great to see players in both Orphir teams making the move from recreational badminton into a competitive league. Pickaquoy made a very welcome first entry to the league with a mix of experience and inexperience in their team. However, the team had difficulty in completing their fixtures, due mainly to injury, but they made a very positive contribution to the league.
Despite the conclusive league statistics, many of the games within matches were incredibly close with games going to three sets and scores going over 21 points to secure a win. As usual the league was thoroughly enjoyable and determinedly challenged by all teams. This league will run again next season so do look out for an announcement and notification at the beginning of the season.
