About the NIWI Program

AWHONN’s Board of Directors will make TWOscholarships available for AWHONN members to attend the Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI) program in the Washington, DC area. NIWI provides nurses with the opportunity to learn how to influence health care through the legislative process. This three-day conference will energize and prepare attendees to become actively involved in the health policy process at the local, state and national levels. About the Scholarships

Two scholarships of up to $3,000 will be offered toassist in covering expensessuch as: travel, lodging, meals and registration for the NIWI conference. One scholarship is intended for an advocacy novice and the other is intended for someone with more advocacy experience.

Applicants will receive notification of their selection byFebruary 3, 2017.

All monies will be issued as reimbursement for expenses. We regret that advance payments will not be available, and all receipts must be itemized and submitted within 30 days following the conference for reimbursement.

To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be an AWHONN member in good standing;
  • Submit the attached scholarship application no later thanDecember 30, 2016;
  • Provide the attached endorsement form from your AWHONN Section/Chapter Leader; and
  • Include a current CV or resume.

* Experience is not required, but will be used to determine which applicants qualify for the novice scholarship and which applicants qualify for the experienced advocate scholarship.

** AWHONN staff will follow-up with scholarship recipients to ensure that the intended plan is carried out in 2017.
