BUILD Youth Services are aimed at young people with learning difficulties, and other disabilities, aged between 13 and 18 years of age and have been in operation since 2001 within the registered charity, BUILD (established in 1967).

As a result of a successful application to the BBC Children in Need Appeal, and internal restructuring, BUILD are looking to recruit a part Co-ordinator to lead and manage two existing youth groups in Norwich and Dereham, and to develop new services in North Norfolk.

The role is for 18.5 hours per week, with a central Norwich office base and will include working on at least two evenings a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and occasional full days during school holidays.

BUILD Youth Services Co-ordinator – Job Description

Summary: As a member of the BUILD staff team, this role is to lead, and manage, two existing youth clubs for young people aged 13-18 with learning difficulties and other disabilities, in Norwich (Tuesday Evenings) and Dereham (Thursday evenings) and to develop, and manage, a new third service in the rural areas of North Norfolk.

The role is for 18.5 hours per week, over three days, based in offices in central Norwich on an annually reviewed contract until March 2013. The post holder will need to provide their own transport to travel across Norfolk, for which an allowance will be paid. The salary is £16,000 per annum (pro rata) paid in monthly instalments.

Responsible for: Recruiting, leading, and managing teams of volunteers developing, and delivering, appropriate weekly activity programmes that are influenced by group members and support young people with learning difficulties to integrate with their peer group and access community facilities.

Reporting to: BUILD Chief Executive

Purpose:
To lead and manage teams of volunteers providing weekly youth club/services in Norwich, Dereham and North Norfolk / Responsibilities:
1. To work with a project team of volunteers, youth group members, and other paid staff, to produce, and publish, an appropriate weekly activity programme for young people with learning difficulties at each location.
2. To take lead responsibility for the weekly delivery of the programme, ensuring that it operates within an agreed budget, and agreed policies and procedures.
3. To recruit, induct, manage and facilitate a team of volunteers, at each location, through regular communication and support.
4. To communicate effectively with internal and external partners, parents and carers, providing support services to youth group members.
5. To produce, and maintain, all required management information, and membership data required as part of the arrangements that fund this project.
6. To identify opportunities for expanding BUILD Youth Services into rural areas of North Norfolk and development of the BUILD Youth Buddies project.
7. To identify and implement structures that encourage young people with learning difficulties in membership of the BUILD Youth Groups to be actively involved in the decision making of each group, and to feed views in to the BUILD Board of Trustees.
8. General.
§  Taking responsibility for risk assessments and all health and safety issues relating to activities both in-house and off the premises.
§  A commitment to working flexible hours including regular evenings and occasional weekends.
§  To actively and positively promote, and be a good advocate of, BUILD in your everyday contact and to positively participate in generic BUILD events where necessary and practicable.

Person Specification
Skills/Knowledge:
·  Commitment and reliability
·  High quality communication skills demonstrated through experience of working with paid staff, volunteers, people with learning difficulties and external agencies in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
·  The ability to provide a vehicle able to transport the post -holder, and equipment and resources within Norfolk for which an allowance will be paid.
·  An understanding of the principles of “Valuing People” and “Valuing People Now”.(Department of Health)
Experience:
·  Of working, or volunteering, with young people with learning difficulties, or other disabilities. (Desirable, not essential)
·  Of managing, supporting and promoting, volunteer engagement.
