School Council Meeting

Monday November 3rd, 2014

Call to order: 6:00 pm

Applied level 3

Quad S.I Program – Ontario principals council - to support program that addresses numeracy at NHHS. Mike Rumleski, Brian Poste and Mr. Dostaler attended in Torontoand presented at the board level their ideas. Moira, Picton and Trenton similar schools to ours and are also part of initiative.

Focus on Applied - pre assessment on grade 9 & 10, thinking inquiry, confidence

- our school has math specialized teacher’s to step in when our math teacher’s come to retirement

- our pass rate for our students are relatively high

Ministry – EQAO – new tool, kindergarten to grade 12 – admin meet once a month

Tasha & Ria – Halloween Spirit Day – GOOD!

Events coming up - Remembrance Day Assembly, Anti Bullying Week, Culture for Care, Huskies Spirit Day – talent show.

Parents Reaching Out Grants – Tour for Humanity bus – Canada World Studies, well received this year. More Canadian history on the bus.

Parent/Teacher Interviews – staffmeeting all about to not many parents showing up. teacher’s not available either.

Principal update: grade 9 day video - enjoyed

SIPSASchool Improvement – growth – so everyone can help a student

What’s needed in different departments 12% up in literacy overall scores and 20% higher success rates for previously eligible writers. Big improvements.

School Improvement Plans – good things happening

Culture of Care – good feed back

PA day – camp Can Aqua, good to have teacher’s away from school to develop together and work on School Improvement Plans

IT – $40,000 (handout received) Dostaler/Andy Parker puts together with help from IT committee, Brian Poste prices out

More smart boards, Kobos (readers), Chrome Books, new computers, new monitors.
