My experience going as volunteer to Afan forest can be described as exciting where besides working I learned about birds and the nature.

At the beginning we didn’t know which kind of task we were going to do, but my enthusiasm was high because somehow we knew that we were expecting to work hard in outdoor duties.

Since we arrived people from Afan forest were friendly and helpful, the first evening we did icebreakers which enhanced the team of volunteers and kept our spirits up. We had sun, so we woke up the next morning to work and truly the weather helped us to enjoy it more, the landscape is beautiful and we were cleaning the walking path.

Meanwhile working our hosts were explaining us about nature and we got luck to see a kind of eagle which was impressing. The next day was as good as the first one, we went to work and we watch the bikes mountain track and people riding by, was very exciting that I will go for a ride in summer.

Was hard working for sure; however we also had lots of fun after work because our team leaders prepare many activities and games in which we laughed for hours. Besides the games we enjoyed for a walk in the forest and our host was explaining us about the nature and some ruins from the World War II period. Furthermore we observed some deer prints on the mood and were interesting and exciting that we could watch a deer in front of us; unfortunately we couldn’t but that experience was exciting. And we enjoyed from a guided visit into the miners museum which was illustrative and we learned more about the risks of extracting the coal from the mines.

The park facilities were amazing, we stayed in a confortable conference room with our sleeping bags, have to say it was warm and comfortable. The food was great as well and the shower room amazing, all their facilities were great and the staff as hosts was excellent.

It was certainly an amazing experience to work, learn and socialize; for me I would like to keep involved in this kind of volunteering activities. In fact there is a camp in summer to prepare camp leaders to keep on going in this activities that if I have enough time I would like to take.

I want to say to the international office “thank you” for the opportunity of letting me go and live this experience which I enjoyed so much.
