Introduction

This course prepares students for success on the pathway to a wide variety of the careers available in multimedia graphic design. This course focuses ondigital animation, 3D design and visualization, and digital design processes and production, preparing students for the rapidly expanding and changing needs of thevisual communications and multimedia design industry. This field represents one of the largest professions in the world, including electronic and traditional printing, publishing, packaging, digital imaging, computer graphics, digital photography, printable electronics, animation, film, and other related areas.

This course offers a successful career pathway for students with a variety of strengths and interests. Students learn practical applications of visual communication principles and processes by completing extensive hands-on projects. This course links design and technology and includes media and mass communication involving the creation, production, management and distribution of advertising, marketing, books, magazines, newspapers, catalogs, packages, movies and other media in printed and digital form.

Students completing this course are prepared to continue their studies in multimedia graphic design, animation and 3D technology. The skills learned in this course also enhance many other diverse professional careers including engineering, the medical industry, forensics, scientific research, military simulations, game design, and film production. Students who go on to complete their college degree in multimedia graphic design, animation and 3D technology are in high demand by leading national and international corporations.

There are no pre-requisite courses for this program.

Assessments / Students in the Career Digital Arts Programat the Boulder CTE Center have the opportunity for authentic customer service experiences in conjunction with theBVSDPrinting and CopyingCenter. Students gain experience on some of the professional print facility equipment and get to complete select projects for customers of the Print Center.
Completion of this course earns students a one-semester CTE Certificate, 10 high school computer applications or elective or practical arts credits, and 5 LA credits. (The L31 Communication in Society curriculum is embedded within the course work for this program.)
Students who complete this course with a grade of B or higher also earn articulated college credits for continuing their studies at Front Range Community College.
