Abstract. This document provides instructions for preparing a paper to be included in the Proceedings of the ECCOMAS Thematic Conference on Multibody Dynamics 2011. Since this is a series of conferences, these instructions are practically identical to the ones of the 2009 edition in Warsaw, 2007 inMilan and 2005 edition in Madrid. This file was obtained by slightly editing a copy of the Milan template kindly provided by C. L. Bottasso. The first page is reserved for the title of the paper, the authors, affiliation, keywords and the abstract. The introduction must begin at the top of the second page. The paper may be written using a software of choice of the authors, but it must be uploaded to the conference web site only in the Portable Document Format (PDF). All instructions as well as LaTeX and MS-Word templates can be found at the conference web site.

1INTRODUCTION

The conference proceedings will be published in anelectronic format, which will be made available to the attendees together with the Book of Abstracts at the time of their on-site registration. Authors should submit their paper electronically through the conference web site before March 18th, 2011. LaTeX and MS-Word templates are available at that same address for the convenience of the authors. The paper file has to be translated to the Portable Document Format (PDF) before submission, and the file name should conform to the following example: Surname1Surname2Surname3_paper.pdf. Papers received later than the above-mentioned deadline will not be included in the proceedings.

2GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

The paper must be written in English within a printing box of 16 cm24 cm, centered in the page. The paper including figures, tables and references must have a minimum length of 4 pages and must not exceed 20 pages.

3TITLE, AUTHORS, AFFILIATION, KEYWORDS

The first page must contain the Title, Author(s), Affiliation(s), Keywords and the Abstract. The second page must begin with the Introduction. The first line of the title is located 3 cm from the top of the printing box.

3.1Title

The title should be written centered, in 14 pt, boldface Roman, all capital letters. It should be single spaced if the title is more than one line long.

3.2Author

The name of each author should include first name, middle initial and surname. It should be written centered, in 12 pt, boldface Roman, 12 pt below the title.

3.3Affiliation

Affiliations should be written centered, in 11 pt Roman, 12 pt below the list of authors.
A 12 pt space should separate two different affiliations.

3.4Keywords

Please, write no more than six keywords. They should be written left aligned, in 12 pt Roman, and the line must begin with the word Keywords: boldfaced. A 12 pt space should separate the keywords from the affiliations.

3.5Abstract

Use 12 pt Italic Roman for the abstract. The word Abstract must be set in boldface, not italicized, at the beginning of the first line. The abstract text should be justified and separated 12 pt from the keywords, as shown in the first page of these instructions. The abstract should neither be too short nor exceed the first page. The abstract should not contain any references to bibliographical entries or to equations appearing in the body of the paper.

4HEADINGS

4.1Main headings

The main headings should be written left aligned, in 12 pt, boldface and using all capital Roman letters. There should be a 12 pt space before and 6 pt after the main headings.

4.2Secondary headings

Secondary headings should be written left aligned, 12 pt, boldface Roman, with an initial capital for the first word only. There should be a 12 pt space before and 6 pt after the secondary headings.

5EDITORIAL HEADING

The first page will include the Editorial Heading, as shown in the first page of these instructions. In addition, successive pages will include the name of the authors. The Editorial Heading must be included in the paper by the authors (it is automatically included if using the provided LaTeX class file mbd2011.cls).

6TEXT

The body of the paper should be written single-spaced, justified, using 12 pt (Times New) Roman in one column. The first line of each paragraph must be indented 5 mm. There is no inter-paragraph spacing.

7PAGE NUMBERS

Write the page number centered at the bottom of each page, with 12 pt Roman. Note: page numbers are not included in the printing box.

8FIGURES

All figures should be numbered consecutively and captioned. The caption title should be written centered, in 10 pt Roman, with upper and lower case letters.

A 6 pt space should separate the figure from the caption, and a 12 pt space should separate the upper part of the figure and the bottom of the caption from the surrounding text.

Figures should be included within the text rather than added at the end of the paper. When referencing a figure, use the form Fig. (1).

9EQUATIONS

A displayed equation is numbered, using Arabic numbers in parentheses. It should be centered, leaving a 6 pt space above and below to separate it from the surrounding text.

The following example is a single line equation:

/ (1)

When you reference an equation, use the form Eq. (1).

Figure 1: Page layout.

10TABLES

All tables should be numbered consecutively and captioned, the caption should be 10 pt Roman, using upper and lower case letters.

C11 / C12 / C13
C21 / C22 / C23
C31 / C32 / C33
C41 / C42 / C43
C51 / C52 / C53

Table 1: Example of a table.

A 6 pt space should separate the table from the caption, and a 12 pt space should separate the upper part of the table and the bottom of the caption from the surrounding text.

11FORMAT OF REFERENCES

References should be grouped together at the end of the paper in numerical order as shown in these instructions, where Ref. [1] exemplifies the case of a textbook, Ref. [2] the case of
a scientific paper, and Ref. [3] the case of a conference paper.

12CONCLUSIONS

  • Papers should be submitted electronically via the web site of the conference,
  • Papers must be submitted for all contributions, including both oral and poster presentations.
  • The paper should be written strictly following these instructions, possibly using the LaTeX and MS-Word templates provided at the conference web site.
  • Only a PDF version of the paper can be uploaded to the conference web site, no other formats are acceptable. The file name should conform to the following example: Surname1Surname2Surname3_paper.pdf.
  • Deadline for the submission of the paper is March 18th, 2011. Papers received later than the above-mentioned deadline will not be included in the proceedings.
  • Only one paper may be orally presented by each attending author.

We very much look forward to welcoming you in Brussels! Best regards from the Organizing Committee of Multibody 2011.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Thanks to C. L. Bottasso for providing and giving the permission to edit the 2007 edition of the LaTeX and MS-Word templates.
