  1. Writing Workshop- Make a list of topics you are an expert in. Pick one topic to write all about.

Make a cover for your “All About” book. On the first page, write: “I will teach you all about…”

  1. Word Work- as:Write the word. Draw a picture of the word. Use the word in a sentence.
  2. Math- Problem of the Day, Math Review, Math Sheet (attached)
  3. Social Studies-Read Community Helpers (attached). Complete sheets attached.

TUESDAY, January10, 2017

  1. Editing- Fix the sentence: The frog (jumping, jumped).
  2. Writing Workshop- Make sure each page sticks to one topic and teaches something different about that topic.Ask yourself: “What else can I write?” and “Does this make sense?”
  3. Word Work- ball:Write the word. Draw a picture of the word. Use the word in a sentence.

WEDNESDAY, January11, 2017

  1. Editing- Fix the sentence: I (hopping, hopped).
  2. Writing Workshop- Use teaching words (text features) to make your writing better: words in bold, what your topic cannot do page, and a ‘did you know’ page. Add diagrams
  3. Word Work- by: Write the word. Draw a picture of the word. Use the word in a sentence.

THURSDAY, January 12, 2017

  1. Editing- Fix the sentence: I am (hopping, hopped).
  2. Writing Workshop- Write a big thought for the last page, saying “Now you know…” Make sure YOU can read your “All About” book. Edit your work so that you and others can read your book.
  3. Word Work- Complete the attached worksheets for the words “as,” “ball,” and “by.”
  4. Math- Problem of the Day, Math Review, Math Sheet (attached)
  5. Science-Draw, label, and write a sentence to answer the following question:

In what ways arefabrics different?

FRIDAY, January 13, 2017

  1. Writing- Write a sentence using the word “yelling.” Write a sentence using the word “yelled.”
  2. Word Work-Practice writing the lowercase letter “r” ten times in your homework notebook.

Draw and label things that begin and end with the “Rr” sound.

  2. Science-Draw, label, and write a sentence about how fabric is made.

Poetry Homework

Monday:

Read the poem using your finger to point under each word. Act it out.

Circle the sight words in the poem.

Tuesday

Rhyming- Review with your child that rhyming words have the same ending sounds. Circle all the words in the poem that rhyme.

Write 3 words that rhyme with “Rick.” (not from poem).

Wednesday-

Segmenting/Blending - Choose a word from the poem (example: Rick). Say each sound separately.Have your child touch his head when saying the first sound (r), touch his waist when saying the middle sound (i), and touch his toeswhen saying the last sound (c).When your child can do this activity easily without assistance, say one of the sounds separately and ask your child to placehis/her hands on the head, waist, or toes to show if the sound comes at the beginning, middle, or end.

Thursday-

Initial Consonant- Choose 3 words from the poem. Write a word that begins with the same sound for each of the words you chose.

Friday-

Final Consonant- Choose 3 words from the poem. Write a word that ends with the same sound for each of the words you chose.
