D. Mature behavior is required of all students - cooperation, consideration, politeness, respect for self and for others, and strict observance of all safety rules.

G. Respect and safety will be ensured for all in the classroom. Name calling, derogatory remarks, comments, etc., concerning or pertaining to race, gender, ethnicity, religion, ability or sexual orientation will not be tolerated.

H.Consequences for inappropriate actions:

warning

parental contact/detention

office referral

Major offenses can result in an immediate office visit.

II.Assignments:

  1. All assignments are expected at the beginning of class on the date due. The students have an “interactive” book and they write in their science books. Work will be accepted one day past the due date for partial credit.

All late work is to be attached to a completed “late hw” sheet (see attached).

B. Interventions available year round are: help sessions in the morning or afternoon by request or scheduled by Mrs. Gregory (7:40 – 8:00), lunch study, and lunch study science interventionduring lunch study. Our book is also online. Your children will be given information on how to access the web site next week and it is also on my website. Your child’s user name is the Pennbrook ID number and the password is the same number. The book online has practice quizzes, virtual lessons, virtual labs, vocab, etc. and the book can be read to the students if needed.

C. If you are absent from class due to illness, it is your responsibility to find out what youhave missed. When you return, check the weekly classwork/homework paper hanging in the hall or online. This paper has all classwork and homework for the week. Old sheets are put in a labeled folderunder the passes on the brown shelves in front, for you to refer to if needed. They are updated every Monday. You can also check classwork and homework from home; it is posted on the Internet onnpenn.org, click on Pennbrook, then teacher webpages. For extended absences you will need to see me and we will make a schedule for making up the work. If you are in school and miss class due to band, chorus, sports, etc., come see me before you leave, so I can collect your homework and give you the work you will miss.

D. If you will be out for vacations/trips you need to see me ahead of time to get the work you will miss. I would appreciate it if you hand that work in the day you return to school. Any tests, quizzes, or labs not given to you should be made up within the next cycle. See me so we can set up times that are convenient for both of us.

E. So I can give full credit for the work done, all papers must have the following heading in the top margin: full nameand period. Any “no name” papers are posted on the “no name wall” on the side of the file cabinet.

Following directions is a very important part of science.

III. Notebooks:

A. Each student is required to keep a science notebook. It can be a 3 ring binder or a folder.

B. Notebooks are an important study guide and should be kept neat and complete.

C. The following should be included in your notebook: notes, vocabulary lists, handouts, quizzes, tests, classwork, homework, and labs. They are to be kept in order according to when they were handed out. As you have the date on the top of each page this should be easy to do.

IV.Grades:

A. Point totals are converted to numeric grades on a percentage basis as follows: A = 90-100% B = 80-89% C = 70-79% D = 65-69% F = under 65%. All summary grades will be calculated to one decimal place and rounded to the nearest whole percent. (For example, 89.4 = 89, B, and 89.5 = 90, A)

B. Students and parents will be informed of failing grades via an interim. Every student receives an interim half-way through every marking period. Parents should also keep track of their child’s grade via Home Access Center.

C. Level 6 and HP will be weighted as follows: formal assessments, 60%, labs 30%, homework checks, class participation and classwork 10 %.(If this percentage changes students will be informed)

D. Students will have cumulative testing throughout the year. Cumulative tests are structured to include both newly developed and previously taught concepts. This practice gives students the opportunity and obligation to demonstrate their understanding of topics which are the essential outcomes of the course.

E.Plus grades will be incorporated into the marking period grading system. This modification allows for more distinction between grades. This grading system will recognize those students performing in the upper range of the grade. An A+ is 97%-100%, a B+ is 87%-89% and a C+ is 77%-79%. There will not be a D+.

F. Students will take a mid-term at the end of second marking period. It will count as 10% of second marking period and formal assessments will go down 10% in this marking period.

G. The comprehensive final exam will be 16% of the student’s final grade.
