Mr. Foster – Social Studies: This week students will examine the theme of geography, and work on specific geographic skills, such as map skills, latitude and longitude, and working with scale. Expect a possible quiz on Friday that reflects the 4 themes for Social Studies that we have discussed thus far.

Ms. Curro – Math:

Math-7 (on level): This upcoming week students in Math 7 will continue to review addition of integers and focus on adding them mentally. Wednesday we will review addition of integers and rational numbers to prepare for a tentative quiz on Thursday. Friday we will begin learning how to subtract integers.

Pre-Algebra: In Pre-Algebra we will spend Monday and Tuesday reviewing how to solve one-step and two-step equations and have a tentative quiz on Wednesday. After the quiz, we will be reviewing how to solve multi-step equations for the remainder of the week

Mrs. Pietrucha– Science: This week, Mrs. Pietrucha’s students will begin to explore and investigate the topic of the heating of the Earth’s surface and the water cycle. By identifying what they know and want to know with KWL charts, we’ll be able to then demonstrate what we have learned by the end of the week.

Ms. Slavin – Math: This week, students in Ms. Slavin’s math class will be learning about rational numbers, and will also begin to learn about integer addition and subtraction. They will be using colored integer chips in order to model the process of addition and subtraction with positive and negative integers.

Ms. Heiser – On Level Math or Algebra: This week, students will continue to work on solving equations with variables on both sides. There is a quiz tentatively scheduled for Wednesday September 21 on Solving Simple and Multi-Step Equations, and Equations with Variables on Both Sides. For the remainder of the week, we will be solving absolute value equations.

Ms. Lijoi – Literacy:

Above level: Students will continue to focus on different types of character conflicts as well as irony in literature as they read the short story “The Dinner Party” as well as “Follow the Water.” They will also discuss how authors will often use irony in their stories for the humor effect. Students should be ready for a quiz on parts of speech on Friday. They will be given their constructed response pre-tests back on Friday to begin constructing their rewrites in class. They will come up with their own outline regarding how to write a constructed response answer using model essays.

Students will be given their constructed response pre-tests back on Friday to begin constructing their rewrites in class. They will come up with their own outline regarding how to write a constructed response answer using model essays.

Ms. McMinn – Literacy: This week, students will explore a short story unit. They will focus on conflict, characters, and setting.
