As you read Health Systems in Action, you can use bookmarks or follow hyperlinked text to get to other parts of the file you are in or to external websites. In addition to the links found in individual chapter files, the file of the complete eHandbook includes a fully linked table of contents and index.

Using bookmarks. Each PDF file will open with bookmarks on the left indicating the main sections/chapters within that file. Click on the title of the content area to move to that section. Click the plus sign (+) next to a “parent” bookmark to expand it. Click the minus sign (-) next to a bookmark to collapse it. To close or open the bookmarks pane, click the bookmarks icon or tab on the far left of the window, or chose View > Navigation Panels/Tabs > Bookmarks.

Using the Page Navigation toolbar. The Page Navigation toolbar opens by default and contains the frequently used tools Next Page, Previous Page, and Page Number. You can display additional tools on the Page Navigation toolbar by right-clicking on it and choosing an individual tool, Show All Tools, or More Tools and then selecting and deselecting tools in the dialog box.

The Next View and Previous View buttons are especially useful. After you leave a page, you can easily return to it by retracing your viewing path. An alternative is View > Go To > Previous View (or Next View).

Other PDF tips. Drag the vertical scroll bar until the page you want appears in the small pop-up display, use the search function to find a specific word or phrase, or use the Page Up and Page Down keys on the keyboard.

Retracing your viewing path in a Web browser. Some linked content will open in your Web browser. You can use the Web browser’s Back and Forward buttons to retrace your steps.
