Report on Lobby Day by Claudia and Yvonne, who were joined by Jeff Goldman and a student.

They saw Senator Amedore,DiDi Barrett, Peter Lopez, Kieran Lalor and Frank Skartados.

Bill for PTAs to render care for WC is advancing in the legislature. We are encouraged to contact legislators to support the bill. Also, a bill regarding athletic trainers and their scope of treatment was discussed. An email elaborating these concerns was sent from NYPTA today.

Delegate Assembly—Larry received both the Outstanding Service to the District Award as well as the prestigious NYPTA Lifetime Achievement Award.

There was a motion from NY state to request that the APTA not hold national conferences in states that have blatant discrimination policies such as those that discriminate against the LGBTQ community.

The Clinical Instructor Credentialing Course held on April 23 and 24 was very successful. The course was fully enrolled with 30 participants and a waiting list. Three vendors participated on Sunday and attendees were very interested in their presentations.

Oncology section proposed a new specialty, which Claudia reported was passed at the House of Delegates.

A proposal passed for all NYS delegates to get equal amount of votes.

Tylene went to a district chair meeting. There has been a turnover with NYPTA employees, and its been difficult to get emails and accounting information. We are now going to get quarterly updates on our accounts and our finances will be more transparent. A new communications director began on May 16, which will hopefully make email communication easier. It was suggested to set up a gmail or Yahoo account for the district but it would be preferable to link all the district accounts to the official NYPTA email. Tylene will contact them and Keri will follow this up.

NYPTA staff members are required to be on the premises in their new building during regular working hours, which will make it easier to contact them. We need to contact them with any concerns so that they can know about them right away, such as email or website problems.

PT month in October. It was proposed to have a relay month to involve all the districts to get out the idea of movement across NY. We discussed involving the Walkway over the Hudson or the rail trails. Also, it was suggested that people send photos on how they stay active/in motion to promote PT and maybe make a movie.

John will discuss these ideas with someone he knows with the Walkway and see how it can relate to PT month. He will also discuss this with the Dutchess Chamber of Commerce and see how PTs can link with their ongoing theme of health and wellness.

Claudia spoke with a wellness instructor at the CIA who would like to collaborate on a nutrition/wellness course with PTs maybe in the spring.

Cathy has spoke to David Malamut who teaches vestibular training. His fees will be $750/day x 2 days to teach a course we will be holding in the fall. He will need assistants depending on how many people attend this course. He has a course manual. October 15-16 is potentially when we will hold it. Participants can print out the digital file for the manual which will save money. He will also need room/board/travel expenses, etc. for a total of about $2200. Cathy will look into whether assistants need to be paid for as well. Total cost to us is about $4,000 in expenses.

We have not decided on the exact fee for this course yet. It will be double the price for non-members, however. Cathy will follow this up with a formal contract for him. The district should send out a Save the Date so that people are aware of this course ASAP. Keri will look up whether the students get a further discount. Cathy will ask him what the maximum number of attendees he prefers for this course, and we will have to figure out how much space/plinths we will need and whether this is available at Marist.

We will provide refreshments for one break, but not lunch. Claudia suggested that people can use the lovely cafeteria at Marist or we can provide a list of other lunch places for everyone.

We will do an email blast and a hard mailing. We will make a flyer. Cathy will ask David if there are any vendors he might suggest which would offset our costs with vendor fees.

We need a social media liaison. Tylene moved to appoint Courtney Trainer for this position, which she will do with Julie. Courtney is learning how to use Twitter. John suggests that all the members here feed her content. John seconded the motion to appoint Courtney.

Tylene has to send in designated delegates for House of Delegates June 2017 in Boston. Cathy Leonard and Tylene have expressed interest in going to this. One of them is guaranteed to go and the other one would be an alternate. We can have multiple alternates. Jill nominated Tylene as a delegate and Ellie seconded it. Tylene nominated Cathy Leonard as an alternate and John as a second alternate.

Update on other courses that John was looking into. He contacted Northeast Seminars but they have not gotten back to him regarding Mulligan. He also contacted a Maitland course but they have not returned his call. Medek has not called him back either regarding a pediatric course.

Other ideas for continuing education: having a concussion training program. Also myofascial release.

Tylene moved to adjourn the meeting.

We do not have the next meeting date yet but Tylene will be in touch about that. Probably August.

The continuing education committee will meet again to work on the October course.

John, Yvonne and Claudia will form the PT Month Committee. They can meet with a conference call which Tylene will help them set up.
