Annual Report to District Patrons

School Accreditation

All public school districts are required to be accredited by the State. Accreditation requirements are found in the Regulations and Procedures for the Accreditation of Schools (Rule 10). To review the accreditation requirements, see

Accreditation establishes minimum requirements for: Kindergarten through 12th grade curricula; teacher and administrator qualifications; media and technology resources; standards, assessment, and reporting procedures; school improvement processes; and related topics. The accreditation requirements assure equitable learning opportunities, encourage quality, and support accountability in Nebraska Schools.

Our School District

Meridian Public School is a consolidated K-12 school consisting of approximately 173 students, 26 professional staff, and 23 support staff. We also run Pre-Kindergarten three days a week. Our school district is made up of four communities: Alexandria, Daykin, Tobias, and Western, which are located in three different counties. The District school building is located two miles west of Daykin, Nebraska. Taxes are levied in four counties: Jefferson, Fillmore, Saline, and Thayer. Agriculture is a focus of the district patrons. The student demographics are 88 percent Caucasian and 12 percent other. The attendance rate has averaged 95 percent over the last fiveyears while the graduation rate is 95 percent. The free and reduced lunch program has averaged 42 percent over the last five years.

The Meridian school district developed an assessment process, using the Six Quality Criteria and other assessment materials, that includes a battery of on-going classroom assessments, periodic criterion referenced assessments, and norm-referenced assessments. Teachers are actively involved in administering the assessments, compiling and analyzing the results, and reporting those results to the staff, district, and state. We also utilize the MAP testing provided by NWEA.

Meridian Public Schools is a member of both the Crossroads Conference and the MUDECAS Association, participating in 8-man football, and is classified as ‘D-2’ in most NSAA activities.

The Board of Education

Meridian Public Schools is governed by an elected six-member Board of Education. Regular meetings are held the third Monday of each month. Board members are elected to four-year terms. Members and their term’s expiration date are:

Chad Frank – TreasurerJanuary, 2015Larry Miller – SecretaryJanuary, 2017

Gary Mussman January, 2017Jay VanWestenJanuary, 2017
