Getting Started

  1. Hypertext was proposed to solve problems with information loss at CERN. Since CERN was not a static development, a fixed hierarchical system would not be effective, and would in fact cause problems such as ‘leaves’ on the information tree referring back to each other in an infinite loop and forcing the user to leave and reenter the system. Since hypertext can link new data to existing data and is supported on all platforms, it solves these problems of losing or misplacing data.
  2. The class websites will be created in an AFS space hosted on the MSU ISP.
  3. The internet service provider at MSU is the MSUnet Wireless network.

Bing

  1. There were 127 million results for “learning to make web pages” without quotation marks. Of these results, about two thirds of them appear to be related to learning to make web pages. A few examples of the sites in the search results list are:
  2. There were 11,800 results for “learning to make web pages” with quotation marks. Of these results, about forty percent of them seem to be related to learning to make web pages. A few examples of the sites in the search results list are:
  3. There were significantly fewer results from the search with quotations marks than from the search without, and this is because without the quotation marks, the search engine looks solely for the key words in the sentence, while with the quotation marks it looks for the exact phrase. This also explains why the first search returned more relevant websites than the second one: the key words in the sentence “learning to make web pages” brought up mostly tutorial websites and advertisements for server hosting, but the entire phrase “learning to make web pages” brought up many web pages that, rather than providing instructions, were people all across the internet describing how they are learning to make web pages.

Google

  1. There were 310 million results for “learning to make web pages” without quotation marks. Of these results, about two thirds of them appear to be related to learning to make web pages. A few examples of the sites in the search results list are:
  2. There were 23,200 results for “learning to make web pages” with quotation marks. Of these results, only about a third of them seem to be related to learning to make web pages. A few examples of the sites in the search results list are:
  3. Both search engines and directories are used for finding information on the information. But while search engines use spiders to gather their information based on the search engine’s algorithm, directories are lists of websites that are created and edited by humans, rather than software robots. On a specific topic, directories are often more helpful, as humans are able to weed out the useless sites that search engines often let through. But since they are edited by humans, they are often only helpful for less specific queries and they may not exist for many topics.
