Special Needs Services (SNS) Coordinator

Job Description / Outline

Hours:40 Hours per week

Supervisor:Director of Special Needs Services

A primary function of this and every other job at the “J” is to ensure that each member, guest and visitor leaves the “J” feeling just a little better than when they arrived.

Position Responsibilities:

The Special Needs Services (SNS) Coordinator is responsible for working collaboratively with the department director and other JCC Department Managers to successfully create and implement department and inter-departmental programming throughout the year. In conjunction with the Director, the SNS Coordinator supervises department staff, participates in various types of community outreach, and is responsible for maintaining positive communication with parents, support workers, JCC staff and other professionals as required. Additionally, the SNS Coordinator works collaboratively to expand the range of services offered by the department and maintain high quality programs. The position is 40 hours per week; longer hours are often required during the summer.

The position includes some administrative and programming tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Managing and creating the year-round day program’s weekly schedules, data collection sheets, and other necessary forms
  • maintaining up-to-date calendars, contact lists, registration lists, and staff files for all department programs
  • completing JCC forms and paperwork as necessary, such as room reservations, incident reports, or supplies requests.
  • preparing and assisting in the facilitation of staff meetings
  • completing state mandated paperwork such as billing, certification requirements, and audits.

The SNS Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and logistics of the year-round day program by providing supervision on the floor and problem solving as necessary. The SNS Coordinator additionally assists in the preparation of the department’s summer programs. He or she will be responsible for creating aides and adaptations for program participants, and may be required to provide direct support to program clients. It is the responsibility of the SNS Coordinator to become familiar with the needs of all department clients so that he or she may assist in training staff as necessary.

The Special Needs Services Department programs are state funded and must abide by the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) standards and procedures. The SNS Coordinator may be required to attend participant ISP meetings and 90-day reviews to offer observations and help design individualized programming. He/she will be responsible for learning DDD procedures for billing, service authorizations, and staffing. Additionally, he/she will be responsible for communicating with DDD to ensure that the department is in compliance with all rules and regulations and to keep up to date with training and learning opportunities available to Special Needs Services staff members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Special Education or related field is preferred
  • Experience with the special needs population is a plus;knowledge of low-incidence disabilities preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; strong computer skills (MS Office; Excel is a plus)
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills; must pay strong attention to detail
  • Flexibility, strong creativity and innovation
  • Fingerprint clearance card (can be obtained after hire)
  • CPR/First Aid certification (can be obtained after hire)
  • Article 9 Certification (can be obtained after hire)
  • CIT Certification (can be obtained after hire)

This position is a full-time non-exempt position and is covered by the Code of Personnel Practices. EOE.
