AgendaItems

  1. Jenn Walker: RMPA picnic date has been confirmed for Tuesday, May 10th, 2016
  2. Jenn Walker provided an update and summary of the BBGB book fair via Britta Petersson. The book fair was a huge success. A big thank you to the middle school students who helped to unload the BBGB truck in a timely fashion in the pouring rain. The logistics of having the soup kitchen in the same space on Grandparents/Great Friends day went well although in the future, the picture area will be moved to avoid congestion under the globe and at the door of Parson’s Hall. Having the soup kitchen in Parson’s Hall did facilitate increased traffic to the book fair. The pre-tax total from the fair was $8967.39, resulting in $1345.11 coming back to the RMPA.
  3. ShealynMilesh provided an update and summary from RMPA movie night which took place on December 4, 2015. Overall, movie night was a success. Village Bank provided a popcorn machine, popcorn and serving bags all free of charge (thanks to Esther Choi for securing this). Snack mix and fruit was also provided. Approximately 60-75 people attended which is likely pushing the upper limit for comfort level in Parson’s Hall. The speakers used were effective but quiet. For future events, a different sound system should be used. According to Jenn Walker, one should be located in Mita Gupta’s classroom storage area. A big thank you to students who assisted in set-up and breakdown with a special shout out to Bree Linton’s son who went above and beyond.
  4. Jenn Walker provided an update from Maryangela Rubin regarding conference day lunches. Total cost was $625.12 and all went smoothly. Jenni Booker Baker thanked the RMPA on behalf of the staff for providing this amazing service.
  5. Jenn Walker started discussion regarding staff holiday gifts which will be presented to the staff following the winter break. Last year, RMPA provided Carytown cupcakes along with $25 Short Pump Town Center gift cards. Ideas were brought forward regarding what to do for gifts this year. Possible ideas included,
  • Similar to last year with shopping gift card and edible treat
  • A plant and nursery gift card (rosemary tree, Christmas cactus etc.)
  • Restaurant gift card (i.e. keep it in the RMS family with Vagabond)
  • Farm-to-table box
  1. Jenni Booker Baker presented information regarding advancement for RMS. Jenni emphasized that the main point of advancement at RMS is to fundraise. Jenni also emphasized that participation from parents is priority in the annual fund drive, not the dollar amount. Parents will be receiving solicitation letters in the mail shortly. In addition, Jenni called on the RMPA to keep her updated on the beat from parents in the RMS community and to inform her on how solicitation is being received. She also reminds all parents to remember work place gift matching. Jenni’s presentation will be attached as an addendum to these minutes.
  2. The monthly financial update will also be attached as an addendum to these minutes.
  3. Spirit wear day will be taking place on Friday, December 18th. Katie Houston will be distributing the RMPA’s RMS silicone bracelets to teachers on Thursday, December 17th for distribution to all students in honor of spirit wear day.
