Target Audience

This program has been designed for sleep medicine physicians, circadian researchers, neurologists, internal medicine physicians, geriatricians, psychiatrists and pulmonary physicians

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Diagnose and treat obstructive sleep apnea
  • Determine medical causes of insomnia and optimize management using state-of-the-art techniques
  • Identify circadian rhythm disorders and treat with light therapy or melatonin agents
  • Discuss the pathogenesis of narcolepsy; understand the effectiveness, risks and benefits of stimulant therapies for hypersomnolence
  • Compare the end-organ damage from sleep apnea-cardiovascular, neurological, endocrinologic and hepatic
  • Define the ontogeny of sleep/wake behaviors
  • Identify paramonmias and when polysomnography is indicated; diagnose and management RLS-know medications and conditions that exacerbate and how to adjust dopaminergic and other medications
  • Recognize the medico-legal responsibilities in caring for persons with sleep disorders who drive
  • Examine cutting-edge findings in the field of sleep medicine and circadian neurobiology
