Manager – Food Rights and Sustainable Livelihoods

Directorate:Programme, Policy and Campaigns

Salary and benefits : Monthly Gross Salary will be 92,352/-with other admissible benefits such as festival bonus, provident fund, gratuity, medical benefit, group life insurance etc.

Key responsibilities include (not limited to)

  • Operationalize and Mainstream Governance on Food Rights, Livelihoods and Sustainable Agriculture Practices

Develop intervention plan for right to food, livelihood and sustainable agriculture in line with the core areas of work articulated in the Food Right and Sustainable Livelihood (FRSL) priority area under CSP IV of AAIB;

Prepare operational plan / annual plans and budget for Food Right and Sustainable Livelihood (FRSL) strategic priority areas;

Share ActionAid’s ideas and perspectives on Right to Food, Livelihood and Sustainable Agriculture with partners, mainstream them across partners networks and design programme interventions accordingly;

Devise strategic options in consultation with Deputy Director / Director for promoting right to food, livelihood and sustainable agriculture agenda

  • Create Synergies, Alternatives, Innovations and Promotion

Develop activity linkage of Food rights and sustainable livelihoods and other priority areas while preparing annual plans and budget;

Innovate ideas, generate new knowledge based on the field experience, farmers field school, farmers learning centre, develop alternatives model and innovations for promotion of livelihood, right to food agenda and sustainable agricultural practices;

Articulation of grassroots realities through reflection-action process, documentation of policy demands at the Local Rights Programme (LRP) level for promotion and upscalling;

Create linkage with various marketing outlets and expand value chain for KKM and other farmers organizations; and enhance farmer’s solidarity through exposure visit and exchange of local level farmer’s initiatives;

Share activities related to Right to Food, Livelihood and sustainable agriculture with national, regional and international organizations, crate synergies and collaboration mechanism with them;

  • Research, Advocacy, Campaign and Networking

Identity action research agenda through reflection-action process and undertake farmer-led action research initiative in collaboration with Programme, Quality and Impact;

Articulate research issues for evidence gathering, formulate research design in consultation with Deputy Director/Director and manage research process for ensuring quality outcome;

Formulate advocacy agenda on right to food and sustainable agriculture based on the Local Rights Programme LRP interventions and undertake advocacy actions at the local level;

Provide programmatic inputs in furthering legislative advocacy around Right to Food, Livelihood and sustainable agriculture and provide technical support to the members of Priority Area Team (PAT) in gathering evidence and creating policy environment at the local level;

Mobilize local civil society around sustainable agriculture practice and establish/strengthen networking with sustainable agriculture practitioners and farmers associations both at national, sub-regional and international level;

  • Support Farmers organizations and Networks

Provide technical guidance to KendrioKrishokMoitree (KKM) for strengthening leadership and organizational capacity/financial management capacity of KKM;

Initiate long-term business plan for KKM, provide them forward and backward linkage for creating demand for agriculture produces from the market as well as ensuring continuation of production;

Provide support to KKM for vertical and horizontal expansion of farmers’ networks around the country;

  • Provide strategic guideline and follow up support to AFSN project

Support to regional focal of AFSN for ensuring right & timely implementation of project components as designed in EC proposal and report

Maintain a regular communication with global secretariat on various events, evaluations, audit,

Identify the regional opportunities with support from the global secretariat, regional colleagues, and other sources,

Help to facilitate a regional governance structure process and build towards a well-functioning, bottom-up and transparent governance system for the region

Facilitate to map regional challenges and key political events to engage the network and represent the regional network in the regional policy spaces if needed

  • Managing People and Coordination of Activities

Provide coaching and mentoring support to the members of Priority Area Team (PAT) in carrying out organizational mission in general and realizing the strategic objective of FRSL priority area;

Coordinate Critical Operational Tasks (COTs) and Strategic Management Tasks (SMTs) related to sustainable agriculture component of FRSL priority area;

Provide technical guidance and strategic directions to the members of Priority Area Team (PAT) in carrying out COTs and SMTs;

Manage performance of the members of Priority Area Team (PAT), assess comparative skills and suggest ways and means for improving their performance and ensuring their career progression;

Performing routine tasks like staff leave plan, performance appraisal, identifying development areas etc., and Coordinating with Human Resource Department in sourcing people;

Performing fundraising and program development on food and livelihoods issues

  • Program Development

Performing fundraising on food and livelihoods issues

Support to program development unit for donor scoping

Taken initiative to develop new idea for fundraising

Relationships

S/he will report to Deputy Director – Programme, Policy and Campaigns of ActionAid International Bangladesh. S/he has to maintain functional relationship with his/her peers in team, priority and project management team. S/he must be able to communicate with impact with other teams and units both programme and operational. The incumbent will maintain liaison and networking in ActionAid International / Federation and other Country Programmes. At national level maintain relationship with relevant Government and Non Government Agencies, Local Partners and other stakeholders.

Required qualification and competencies

  • Masters in Agricultural science, Sociology, Economics or relevant discipline.
  • At least 6 years of working experience at the grassroots level on food rights, sustainable agriculture, livelihoods and farming system, production planning, farmer’s organization, trainings and workshop facilitation, review monitoring and evaluation, work with and lead teams.
  • Carry out a number of researches along with intense policy and campaign work on food rights issue
  • Profound knowledge and experience in the field of project management, participatory development, Human Rights Based Approach.
  • Good management on administration, communication and facilitation, team building and executing capacity, understand program planning and budget, M&E, reporting system, mandatory computer skills and English
  • Excellent facilitation and advocacy skills.
  • Posses humane values, sensitive to gender and ethnicity and committed towards change.
  • Team building and motivational skill.
  • Time bound ability to work under pressure.
