7th& 8thGrade Liberty Patriots Golf Team

2011- 2012

  1. How do I know if my child is eligible?

Basically, in order for a student to be eligible to participate in athletics they mustpass a minimum of 5 out of 7 classes. The grades that determine eligibility are based on the last semester averages given. In addition, students who turn 15 prior to May 1st of their seventh grade year are not eligible to participate in athletic extracurricular activities.

  1. Does my child need a physical to participate?

Yes. Students must have a current physical on file at the home school before participating in conditioning or tryouts. The physical must be completed on the Forsyth County Middle School Athletics’ Physical Form.Students must have a waiver and insurance form on file at the home school. All sports physicals are “good” for one calendar year from the date administered.

  1. What will the tryout process be like? – TRYOUTS DATES ARE FEBRUARY 6TH & 7TH

Tryouts will last for two days. Players will be evaluated on their overall golf game (driving, chipping & putting.) I am looking for players who enjoy the game of golf, have good skills, and are willing to work hard!

  1. What do I need to do if my child makes the team?

I will give thema copy of the practice schedule and upcoming matches for the team. Be looking for the date of the first TEAM PARENTMEETING which will occur soon after the team is announced. If your child makes the team, we will need some VOLUNTEER PARENTS to help with driving students to practice and matches, and also help with snacks before golf matches. We will discuss this further at the parent meeting.

  1. Will it cost anything to be a part of the team?THE TOTAL COST WILL BE RIGHT AT $100.00 PER PLAYER.

Yes. This year, each player who makes the team will need to pay __$100.00______which includes: (1) Liberty Golf Polo, (1) Liberty Golf WindShirt, (1) Liberty Golf Hat, (1) Liberty Golf Towel, golf balls before each match, and entrance fee into the County Championship.

  1. Will there be any fundraisers?

No. Not only are there no fundraisers, but we will HOPEFULLY have a home course to practice and play matches at this year. Liberty Middle School practiced and played at Crystal Falls Golf Course last year, and hopefully they will allow us to practice and play there again. Therefore, players trying out for the team will be expected to respect and follow golf course rules at all times since it is a privilege to be playing on their course. You will also need a ride TO & HOME from each practice and match (parents worked out carpooling last year.)

  1. What if my child is or will be playing another sport during golf season?

That is fine provided that the other sport will not conflict with the golf practice or matches schedule. All players will be expected to attend all team functions. If the schedules do conflict you should talk to the coach immediately. It is not fair to cut students who can/could have attended every team function while players on the team miss practices and/or matches.

  1. What about playing time?

The playing time that each student-athlete receives is a decision that will be made by the coach only. If you or your child is concerned about a lack of playing time I encourage you to work with them on their game, and practice the fundamentals. A positive attitude, lots of energy, and a good work habit is what I will be looking for out of all of my players!

The Liberty Golf Team is a Co-Ed Competitive sport for 7th and 8th graders who compete against other schools.

If you are serious about making the Liberty Golf Team this year, you need to be working on your game right now. Putting, chipping, driving range, and even playing a course if possible.
