Equipment:

  • Heavier type soccer balls,

Set induction: Today we are going to be professional soccer players who are training for the Olympics just like Ms. Steeb said and work on kicking.

Content Development:

  • I want everyone to stand in their personal space on their “X”
  • Now we’re going to take what we learned with Ms. Steeb and add some steps to it.
  • Watch me as I demonstrate “Step right, Step left, and kick with my right foot”. Notice how I am kicking the ball with the inside of my right foot and my shoelaces are pointing out.
  • Now, when I say “green light,” I want everyone to go get a ball from the hoop andstand back on their “X” and return to their personal space.
  • Now put your ball in front of youand then take a giant bear step back
  • Now we are going to kick like I just kicked
  • Step right, Step left, Kick…remember to kick with the inside of your right foot
  • Now step left, step right, Kick…remember to kick with the inside of you left foot
  • Watch me as I demonstrate “Step right, step left, Kick with my right foot”. Notice how I am now kicking the ball with top of my right foot or my laces.
  • Now step right, step left, Kick…remember to kick with the top of your right foot
  • Same with left
  • Next get in partners and practice stepping and kicking the ball to your partner…remember to step, step, kick, and do it as slow as a turtle so it doesn’t go past your partner
  • Then everyone should get back on their “X’s” and stand in their personal space

(Place the hoops on the floor next to the wall)

  • We are now going to work on controlling our ball and trying to step, step, kick it into the hoop in front of us..then go get your ball from the hoop and repeat
  • You can kick with either your right or left or inside or top of your foot.

Culminating Activity:A “bowling” soccer kick. Set up pins next to the wall and have the students’ practice standing and kicking and stepping and kicking. This activity will tie in aim, hardness, and softness of kicking. Have a few set up, and once someone has knocked all their pins down, switch with a partner.

Closure: What are the two different parts of our foot we can kick with?
