Lección 3, Estructura 3.1, Descriptive adjectives

¿Quién es quién?

Materials:

·  Photocopies (color, if possible) of the chart provided

·  Scissors

Participants: Pairs or groups of four

Set-up: Photocopy the chart provided, three copies per group. Cut out the cards from one of the copies to make a set of twenty-four.

Rules and procedure: This is a version of the game Guess who? Distribute a set of cards to each pair and a chart to each student. Have pairs shuffle the twenty-four cards well. Then, each student must draw one card. Students should cover or hide their cards so their partners cannot see them. Students take turns guessing which character a partner has by asking yes or no questions in Spanish.

Ex: Let’s say that Estudiante 1 has Claudia and Estudiante 2 has Paco.

ESTUDIANTE 1: ¿Es hombre?

ESTUDIANTE 2: Sí. ¿Es hombre?

ESTUDIANTE 1: No. ¿Es moreno?

ESTUDIANTE 2: Sí. ¿Es vieja?

ESTUDIANTE 1: No. ¿Es inglés?

ESTUDIANTE 2: No. ¿Es rubia?

Students should continue until one of them guesses which character his or her partner has. As soon as a student knows, for example, that the partner’s person is a woman, he or she should use a pencil to cross out all of the men. (Using a pencil allows for recycling the chart later.) Students must cross out different people until they know the correct answer.

Encourage students to use as many adjectives as possible. The following additional vocabulary might prove useful.

Gafas

Sombrero

Gorra

Ojos verdes / azules / marrones

Castaño/a

Canoso/a

Tip: Students can also play in groups of four as two opposing pairs. In this case, remind students that all players must participate equally.
