Modern Pentathlon Western Australia, Swan Valley Horse and Pony Club, and the UWA Fencing Club, invite you to participate in our inaugural Modern Pentathlon W.A. State Championship Event to be held in the beautiful Swan Valley on Saturday May 6thand moving to Claremont on the Sunday.

MPAWA State Championship Events will be as follows:

  1. Modern Pentathlon (UIPM): Swim, Fence, Show Jump (Pool Horse), Combined (Run/Shoot)
  2. Tetrathlon (Pony Club Style): Swim, Shoot (10m Laser Pistols), Ride (own horse), Run
  3. Tetrathlon (UIPM): Swim, Fence, Combined (Run/Shoot)
  4. Triathle (UIPM): Swim, Combined (Run/Shoot)

Saturday May 6th Brookleigh Cross Country; Outdoor Show Jumping Arena; Brookleigh Equestrian Centre, Brigadoon

Sunday May 7th Claremont Aquatic Centre, Davies Road, Claremont AND

UWA Fencing Club, UWA Martial Arts Centre, Cnr Princess and Goldsworthy Roads, Claremont

This event will be run under Modern Pentathlon UIPM Rules 2017 and PCA Nationals Tetrathlon Rules 2017 with some modifications. Entering this event constitutes implicit acceptance of the rules. Horses must be at least 4 years of age to compete and riders must be 8 years as of 1st January 2017.

All competitors are ultimately responsible for knowing these rules and complying with them. PCAWA gear checking rules will apply for the Show Jumping.

Tetrathlon, Equathon, Triathle and Biathle events have been devised as development sports for Modern Pentathlon.

General Information:

**Fencers! There will be separate awards for excellence in Fencing and Shooting, so even athletes who might not swim or run very well, can still come along, have fun and experience Fencing Modern Pentathlon style!

*There will be Laser Pistols and Fencing Equipment available for Hire for those who need.

*The Ride will be a Show Jumping round for both Pentathlon and Tetrathlon Events. There will be no Gate or Slip Rail for the Tetrathlon Course.

* There is a NOVICE Modern Pentathlon Class for those who have never competed in a full Modern Pentathlon before.

*There is a MASTERS Tetrathlon Class for both Tetrathlon types. ShowJumping Height will be 45cms (+ 65cms depending on entries and riding competencies).

*Owners/Riders who offer Pool Horses for the Modern Pentathlon Event will receive a Cash payment

*Tetrathlon Riders will ride at a specific height BEFORE the Pentathlon Riders ride at the same height, so Tetrathlon Riders who are willing, will be able to offer their mount as a Pool Horse for a Modern Pentathlon rider for the same height (or higher) Pentathlon Class.

*Modern Pentathletes jumping a height lower than their age group will have points deduction of minus 30 points per 10cms less in height.

*For ‘YOUTH A’ Modern Pentathlon at the W.A. State Pentathlon/Tetrathlon Championships the Riding Points WILL count towards final placings and medals, but not for Australian Ranking points. Placings in Youth A without the riding points will be used for ranking purposes.

*Modern Pentathletes in Youth Categories who don’t wish to ride will be entered in the Tetrathlon (UIPM) Event.

* Swim, - Claremont Aquatic Centre, 7.30am Sunday.

* Fencing – Sunday at UWA Fencing Club Claremont. Time TBA in Program (Published after entries close and prior to event).

*Running and Shooting - Sunday at UWA Fencing Club Claremont. Time TBA in Program (Published after entries close and prior to event).

* Transport available from Swan Valley for Interstate athletes to Claremont Aquatic Centre and UWA Fencing Club on Sunday

* Food Van available at Brookleigh Show Jumping grounds on Saturday

*Competitors may only enter one event e.g Pentathlon, Tetrathlon (Pony Club), Tetrathlon (UIPM) or Triathle

Conditions of Entry:

Show Jumping phase:

  1. Entering the competition constitutes acknowledgement that PCAWA gear checking rules apply and acceptance of these rules.
  2. Insurance:Competitors must be financial members of either a Modern Pentathlon State Association, PCAWA, EA, registered Pony Club/Riding club or provide verification to event secretary that they are certified as competent at the height they are riding from an Accredited Riding Instructor/Coach.
  3. Queries, protests, horse abuse as per PCAWA rules
  4. This is a No Alcohol and non-Smoking Event
  5. Dogs are prohibited without exception
  6. Competitors may only ride one horse
  7. Competitor numbers will be allocated by the organising committee. Bridle or saddlecloth numbers must be provided for the Show Jumping phase.
  8. No refunds after the closing date except with a Vet. or Medical certificate. An administration of $15 will be deducted.
  9. The organising committee reserves the right to cancel any class or competition; divide any class; alter times or refuse any entry with or without stating a reason.
  10. Horses must be at least 4 years old, no stallions, colts or rigs.
  11. Gear check is required for all riders prior to Show Jumping. Competitors must present to Gear Check 20minutes prior to their allocated riding time. Competitors not complying will be eliminated. PCAWA gear checking rules apply.
  12. Medical Armbands must be worn by ALL COMPETITORS during the Show Jumping phase.
  13. Show Jumping attire as per acceptable in registered Show Jumping events.
  14. PCAWA Lunging Policy applies. Lunging is only permitted in a round yard, and helmet and gloves must be worn.

Swimming phase:

15.Dress for swimming phase: Wet suits may not be worn. Suitable swimming attire should be worn. Racing bathers and goggles are strongly recommended.

Running phase:

16.Dress during the running phase: Running shoes with spikes are not permitted. Competitors may not run stripped to the waist. Singlets may be worn for this phase only. Use of headphones, iPods and mobile phones are not permitted.

ENTRIES OPEN ON MONDAY APRIL 3rd and CLOSE ON FRIDAY APRIL 21st (10pm WST). NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Entry Fees:

  1. Modern Pentathlon - Swim, Fence, Show Jump (Pool Horse), Laser/Run - $180
  2. Tetrathlon (Pony Club) - Swim, Shoot (Laser Pistols), Ride (own horse), Run - $ 85.00
  3. Tetrathlon (UIPM) – Swim, Fence, Laser/Run - $75.00
  4. Triathle (UIPM) – Swim, Laser/Run - $50.00

Hire of Laser Pistol for non-Western Australian competitors is $20.00

Brookleigh Cross Country Ground Fee is $15 per horse.

Compulsory helpers

All competitors must nominate a helper 16 years of age or over, one entry – one helper; helpers nominated for more than one athlete will get more than one duty. If an athlete’s helper (or a delegate) does not turn up for their designated duty, that athlete will not be permitted to complete the event and will not be eligible for any awards.

STARTING TIMES AND PROGRAM

Available by Thursday prior to the Event with Helper Duties on

Class changes once the Draw is posted will incur a $15 fee. No class changes on the day of the Event.

WITHDRAWALS

The Secretary must be notified of withdrawals prior to the event. After closing date, a partial refund (less an Admin fee) will be given on presentation of a Doctors Certificate within 7 days of the event. Riders scratching a horse will be asked to do their Helper Duty in order to claim their refund.

ACCOMMODATION & YARDS

Camping is available on the Brookleighgrounds and accommodation at the Bunkhouse is also available on a per room basis at $105 per room (sleeps 2 people). Camping and/or Bunkhouse Accommodation to be booked through Gavin Foster; Brookleigh Cross Country;on 0419121973

BILLETTING

We also have Pony Club members who live in the Swan Valley who have kindly said they can billet a couple of riders and horses. Please advise the Event Secretary on , if this is an option you are interested in.
