Print Communications 25S: (1/2 credit)

The purpose of this course is:

·  to provide the skills and knowledge to plan and create documents for personal and business communications

Learning outcomes:

·  planning and producing print documents conforming to recognized standards

o  business letters

o  labels and envelopes

o  memorandums

o  meeting agendas

o  meeting minutes

o  research papers in MLA style

o  resume, cover letter

o  tables

o  notices, flyers

·  editing documents

·  using language and tone appropriate to the communication

·  incorporating elements of good design when designing documents

Data Collection and Analysis 35S: (1/2 credit)

The purpose of this course is:

·  to provide the skills and knowledge to collect, organize, manipulate, and analyze data to solve problems using spreadsheets and a data base

Spreadsheet topics include:

·  creating worksheets by entering and importing data

·  create formulas and functions

·  sort data

·  create, modify, and publish charts

·  link multiple worksheets and multiple spreadsheet documents

·  improve the readability of a worksheet

·  embed a spreadsheet with a word processing document and vice versa

Data base topics include:

·  creation and navigation

·  data entry and editing

·  add/delete records

·  sort records

·  queries

·  reports

**A duotang is needed for the course portfolio.

Evaluation:

Each course will have a final assessment.

General guidelines:

Students are to:

·  Behave responsibly and respectfully while in the computer lab

·  Adhere to the rules regarding the computer lab as governed by Hanover School Division policy that you signed and NCI rules as outlined in the Parent/Student handbook

·  No electronic equipment is to be used in the lab unless used with teacher’s permission for a designated assignment

·  No food or drinks in the lab

·  No rolling chairs around

·  Do not deface the equipment

·  Do not use/vandalize another person’s computer

·  No running or shoving other people

·  Use your own login—do not login as someone else

All student assignments must be saved either on the school network or the student must be able to provide the file on their thumb drive, or email a copy of the assignment to the teacher. Failure to provide proof will disqualify the assignment/project from being marked and recorded.
