Job Summary:

TASIS England seeks a well qualified, committed, and experienced Librarian for this position in the Middle School Library/Media Centre for students aged 10 to 14 years.

Duties include evaluation and selection of new materials and interacting with students on a daily basis to offer advice and information on the availability of the resources within the Library. A person who enjoys collaboration with adults and children as well as extensive knowledge of children’s literature, library software, library cataloguing and the latest instructional technology is required. Master of Library and Information Science Degree or equivalent and previous experience is preferred.

There is a possibility of housing during term time only with House Master/Mistress duties for our boarding students with the main duties outlined below.

The House Master/Mistress (HM) is responsible to the Head of Boarding for the overall leadership and smooth running of the Boarding House, the supervision and guidance of the Deputy House Master/Mistress (DHM) and the Tutor Team and, above all, the safety and welfare of the students ensuring compliance with all of the National Minimum Standards that relate directly to Boarding. He/she is resident in the Boarding House for the academic year and helps to establish its character, whilst maintaining as much parity with other Boarding Houses in terms of facilities and numbers as is possible. It is important to prepare a handbook well before the start of the academic year, which will contain the code of conduct, House rules and, also, photos of the students who will still be in the House when new boarders arrive. The role involves working closely with other members of teaching staff across the school, as well as administration staff and the wider community of auxiliary staff that help with the establishment of a fair, productive and happy, social and working boarding environment. Ensuring that proactive measures, where possible, are taken to avoid any contravention of the rules is an essential element of the role. It is expected that the HM will be a member of faculty working a reduced timetable calculated according to the number of students in the Boarding House. Regular and appropriate training will be provided and, especially, a rigorous induction programme prior to taking up this position.

Experience and Qualifications:

BA degree with a minimum of 2 years full time experience.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • To know the identity of the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy
  • Proactively be alert to indicators of potential safeguarding issues and report these immediately in accordance with the school’s procedure
  • Be aware of the School’s Safeguarding Policy and to follow its requirements
  • Attend training relating to Safeguarding of Children
  • Engage in safe practice and professional conduct to safeguard children to mitigate against the potential for misunderstandings or situations being misconstrued
  • Create safe and secure learning environments
