A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Estelle Virginia Martin Simpson.

WHEREAS, Estelle Virginia Martin Simpson, who was born on June 19, 1918, in Steward County, Tennessee, was the daughter of the late Will and Myrtle Blaine Martin. She graduated from Kentucky State University with a B.A. degree, and from Western Kentucky University with a masters degree. While she was studying at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky, she met her husband, Frank Simpson, and they fell in love and married. The couple spent the next 68 wonderful years together enjoying being with each other; and

WHEREAS, Estelle Virginia Martin Simpson was a highly educated women with a passion for teaching. She taught for many years in Allensville, Kentucky, and after that, she taught at Washington Elementary School in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and was a Math Specialist at Bashford Manor Elementary School in Louisville, Kentucky. Her love of learning was a great inspiration for all her students; and

WHEREAS, Estelle Virginia Martin Simpson was a very talented, generous woman who had many pastimes. She made many beautiful quilts and unique pieces of pottery. She loved to work and grow gorgeous plants which she tenderly cared for. She will always be remembered by her family and friends as a gourmet cook. On holidays, she outdid herself with delicious food and a warm and welcoming spirit. Laughter was always heard in her home where family and friends enjoyed themselves; and

WHEREAS, Estelle Virginia Martin Simpson was faithful to the Lord and attended Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Miles Memorial C. M. E Church, and Philips Memorial C. M. E. Church. Additionally, she was active in the Louisville Chapter of the Links Incorporated for over 30 years and was a devoted member of the Kentucky State University Alumni Association; and

WHEREAS, Estelle Virginia Martin Simpson was a kind, loving, and generous woman who was devoted to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Simpson; four brothers, Stokley Martin, Ploma Martin, Smith Martin and Booker Martin; and her four sisters, Vester Martin, Rosa Jefferson, Treva Tyler, and Helen Williams. She is survived by her children, Dr. Oliver B. Simpson and Dr. Rosetta W. Hassan, her four grandchildren; her special nieces; her special nephews; her cousins; and devoted friends, who all cherish wonderful memories of Estelle Virginia Martin Simpson; and

WHEREAS, Estelle Virginia Martin Simpson went to be with the Lord on February 3, 2013, at the age of 94, and she is remembered for her generous, loving nature and her passion for education by her devoted family, friends, former students, and community;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate expresses its most profound sense of sorrow and proffers its sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and community of Estelle Virginia Martin Simpson.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Estelle Virginia Martin Simpson.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Gerald A. Neal for delivery.
