Salary range: £36,969 - £41,385 per annum (including London weighting)

Hours: 35 per week

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

As the sole impact and evaluation specialist in the organisation, you will manage monitoring and evaluation across our work and ensure we gather the best possible evidence of our impact. You will:

  • Design, manage and undertake high quality monitoring and evaluation of our projects,
  • Develop our internal impact practice and systems,
  • Use data and evidence to make the case for greater support and investment, and
  • Support our policy and campaigns work to improve public policy for walking and the walking environment.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Monitoring and evaluation
  • Set up the best possible methods of monitoring and evaluating our work – including projects, campaigns and other activities – in support of our internal strategies
  • Work closely with project leads in the Local Impact department to establish robust evaluation frameworks for key projects that are compatible with project delivery and in line with partner/funder requirements
  • Set up and support staff in the use of effective monitoring systems for storing and reporting on project data and evidence, including use of external systems such as The Outcomes Star
  • Ensure accurate, timely and meaningful project reporting in line with our own needs and partner/funder requirements
  • Develop, commission and manage appropriate external evaluation and research, and advise on the creation of other such tenders internally
  1. Internal impact practice
  • Support a culture of effective organisational impact practice, developing appropriate systems and resources, and working closely with all teams to measure, demonstrate and learn from the impact of our work
  • Identify ways to improve the evaluation methods, data collection tools, statistical analysis and reporting methods used across the organisation, to improve efficiency and quality of data
  • Undertake relevant data processing and statistical analysis on projects, campaigns or other datasets to provide reports to colleagues, senior managers, Trustees and partners
  1. Making the case
  • Work closely with the Development team to support the case for our work and develop high quality funding bids, including using primary and secondary evidence, guiding project design, and suggesting appropriate evaluation approaches for conceived projects
  • Undertake project modelling and economic forecasting in support of our work, such as with the Department for Transport’s webTAG appraisal tool or the Health Economic Assessment Tool (HEAT)
  • Develop effective relationships with civil servants and other stakeholders to build the profile of our work and agenda, and to identify opportunities to make use of our monitoring and evaluation activity to build the evidence base and further our cause
  1. Policy and campaigns
  • Use and analyse internal and external evidence to inform our policy, communications and campaigns activity, collaborating with relevant teams to ensure that our policy arguments and campaign materials are well backed-up and realistic
  • Keep on top of relevant external research and evidence and provide reports or summaries to other relevant staff, maintaining networks and contacts as appropriate
  1. Other duties

Department

  • Line manage the Research and Policy Coordinator
  • Be an active contributor to the Policy and Communications team and attend team meetings and away days
  • Act as media spokesperson when required
  • Deputise for the Head of Policy and Communications when required in their absence
  • Visit or work out of other regional offices when required
  • Reasonable occasional out of office hours work will be required, as may be some travel within the UK and abroad.

Organisation

  • Represent the organisation in relevant impact, evaluation, research and policy arenas
  • Be an ambassador for Living Streets at public-facing events and to external audiences, including interaction with partners, funders, wider stakeholders and the general public
  • Champion the Living Streets corporate brand, messages, campaigns and communications initiatives to raise our profile and impact
  • Support the effective delivery of our Strategic objectives
  • Contribute to the management of the organisation and be an active contributor to staff meetings and internal communications
  • Support fellow staff and provide internal mentoring and training where appropriate
  • Maintain good working relationships with internal staff and relevant external stakeholders
  • Undertake other duties from time to time, as requested by the line manager/Department Head/Chief Executive

Experience

Knowledge and skills

High level of numeracy and proficiency in using software to deal with data /  / 
Project management skills and ability to deliver on time and on budget /  / 
Strong methodological skills in quantitative and qualitative data collection, cleaning, coding and analysis /  / 
