INTRODUCTION

Between two residential family centres, Bonner House in Birmingham and Dudley Lodge in Coventry, we employ 100 people in a variety of positions ranging from unqualified family workers to case managers (qualified social workers) and senior managers.

With regard to Bank/Temp work, we have opportunities in relation to:

  • Bank Waking Night Family Worker - working a 10-hour shift from 9.30pm to 7.30am
  • Bank Family Workers - working 7½ hour shifts: 7.30am - 3.0pm & 2.30pm - 10.0pm, this includes working some weekends.

Bank Work is offered on a 'as and when required' but during the holiday period we can usually offer at least 3 - 4 shifts per week, and this will involve some weekend working. Bank Staff are offered shifts and they will inform us if they are able to provide the 'cover' required. Bank shifts can also be forward planned for around a 4-6 week period, to cover for a vacancy, sickness or annual leave.

The above position is ideal for people wishing to gain experience in the field of social care/social work; no previous experience is necessary as we induct and train our workers.

JOB PURPOSE

  • To work with families on a day-to-day basis, observing and recording the parents’ abilities to meet the immediate safety and care needs of their children. This will be completed through daily observations.
  • To ensure parents/carers prioritise the safety and welfare needs of their children
  • To create a supportive learning/re-learning environment for parents and children
  • To provide childcare for children whilst their parents/carers attend Groups and Individual Sessions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. To ensure the safety and welfare of children remains central to the assessment/intervention process.
  1. To take an active part in the assessment process regarding children and families - to observe, supervise, record and assess family interaction, child behaviour, parental motivation and parental ability to meet the needs of the child(ren).
  1. To provide a service that values and respects the strengths, experiences and background of the families.
  1. To build appropriate professional working relationships with families, working in partnership with parents, advising and where appropriate, supporting them in the care of their child(ren).
  1. To use common sense and sensitivity in challenging and teaching parenting practices.
  1. To provide structured feedback to parents during and at the end of each shift.
  1. To plan and prioritise workload effectively within established timeframes, and ensure that all written recordings meet required deadlines.
  1. To assist with childcare duties as required.
  1. To participate fully in training and supervision, identifying training courses relevant to the role and personal development.
  1. To promote and maintain equal opportunity and anti-oppressive practice within the work environment.
  1. To be aware of health and safety responsibilities at work.
  1. To undertake other duties or tasks as identified by the Centre & Deputy Managers, Team Case Managers or Office Manager.

All staff are expected to work in a flexible way to cope with the needs, demands and requirements of the Centre

Use of personal phones/cameras are restricted to certain areas of the building
