JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Centre ManagerDover ARC

Responsible to: Deputy Head Teacher

Grade: KR9 (37 hours / Full Time

Location: Dover ARC

Job Summary:

To be responsible for the daily operational management of a satellite Key Stage 4 provision and the management of a team of staff including teaching and non-teaching support staff. To ensure the policies and procedures of ELA are embedded in practice. To promote high expectations of students’ behaviour and learning as well as professional standards for staff. The Centre Manager will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team working collaboratively with the other centre managers to lead and manage the satellite provision for Key Stage 4 placements. The Centre Manager is line managed by the KS4Deputy Head Teacher and will take the lead in their provision for ensuring the high quality of teaching and learning.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. To teach subjects being punctual to lessons, acting responsibly and demonstrating reliability.
  1. To operationally manage the daily running of the Centre, ensuring pupils’ attendance is high, all assessments are completed termly and on entry / exit and behaviour is consistently managed.
  1. To maintain acceptable levels of attendance and creatively approach attendance issues to ensure improvement and maintenance of attendance towards over 90%.
  1. To promote, monitor and support staff in the delivery of the curriculum.
  1. To develop relationships and working practices with local schools and voluntary providers.
  1. To increase access to the provision and creatively develop programmes which meet the needs of individual pupils.
  1. To ensure all staff complete accurate daily records using SIMS and monitor the quality of management information produced by the centre.
  1. To continue the development and recording of restorative justice practices.
  1. To ensure all students have IEP targets, Positive Handling Plans and Risk Assessments in place as well as reviewing these termly or as required.
  1. To ensure all assessments are completed termly and monitor accuracy, following up as necessary.
  1. To coordinate all planning and review meetings, chairing these in conjunction with teaching staff.
  1. To undertake all pre-admission meetings to the centres for which responsibility is held.
  1. To provide support and advice for staff as necessary.
  1. To monitor and manage the systems and procedures in place to ensure the Centre operates smoothly.
  1. To contribute to the recruitment and selection of staff.
  1. To promote the cognitive behavioural strategy framework utilised by ELA in securing improvements in social interaction, self-regulation and student behaviour.
  1. To work collaboratively with outside agencies and other stakeholders (i.e. local feeder schools) in promoting the needs of the pupils within the Centre and ensuring termly reviews are undertaken.
  1. To lead and manage of incidents including the debriefing of staff and follow-up planning.
  1. To act as Exams Officer and CP officer for the Centre, liaising with the KS4 Manager in relation to CP issues and LAC pupil provision.
  1. To be responsible for organising the maintenance of the centre building and monitoring all aspects of health and safety and security.
  1. To monitor teaching and learning through daily “Learning Walks”, joint lesson observations and analysis of data termly.
  1. To undertake weekly updates of the service website.
  1. To manage the centre budget and Assets Register and keep accurate financial records and evidence, following ELA procedures in line with the Finance Policy.
  1. To be responsible for monitoring and organsing maintenance of the minibuses used by the centre.
  1. To act as Exams Officer for the centre and liase with ELA Exams Officer and Finance Officer in relation to exam entries.
  1. To attend weekly managers meetings, lead on daily morning and afternoon briefing meetings and ensure accurate minutes are kept.
  1. To be willing to undertake training in Team Teach and follow the associated guidance when dealing with extreme challenging behaviour.
  1. To abide by the school's policies, including those relating to safeguarding, health and safety and equal opportunities and contribute to annual policy reviews.

General:

To undertake other reasonable duties which are consistent with both the needs of the Centre and commensurate with the role of the post holder.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  1. Experience of leading and managing a team of teaching staff.
  1. To be working towards or possess a recognised teaching qualification (DTLLS/QTS)
  1. Experience of working within an educational setting catering for complex, challenging young people.
  1. High levels of resilience to overcome difficulties and manage challenging behaviour successfully.
  1. Ability to support staff in managing complex and challenging behaviours and analysing incidents in order to inform future behavioural planning.
  1. Confidence in using ICT and willingness to develop knowledge and competence in management information systems including SIMS.
  1. Excellent ability to manage own workload and complete all tasks fully to a good standard.
  1. Experience of working with parents / carers and supporting them in overcoming barriers to attendance and educational engagement.
  1. Knowledge of appropriate accreditation and high expectations of learning outcomes.
  1. Knowledge of health and safety guidelines.
  1. Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and willingness to undertake DCPC training as appropriate.
  1. Ability to motivate disaffected learners and raise their self esteem.
  1. Knowledge of transition routes to reduce NEETs and willingness to engage with post-16 providers.
  1. Ability to maintain a professional and boundaried relationship with stakeholders, promoting ELA.
  1. Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with troubled families.
