Purpose

To support the Communications Manager in all aspects of communication, by coordinating the academy year plan, helping deliver consistently high quality events and parental engagement opportunities, supporting the Communications Manager with the delivery of print and online communications.

Principal Accountabilities

The duties outlined in this job description are in addition to those covered by the Local Government Terms and Conditions document. It may be modified by the Principal, with your agreement, to reflect or anticipate changes in the job, commensurate with the salary and job title.

Job summary

  • Maintaining and sharing the academy’s year plan.
  • Updating the academy website and populating the online events calendar.
  • Coordinating and planning meetings for all event stakeholders; tracking deliverables and deadlines.
  • Overseeing the use of bookable rooms/facilities in the academy (i.e. meeting rooms, theatre).
  • Publicising events to students, parents/carers, staff and the wider community.
  • Attending and coordinating parental engagement meetings and events (flexible hours required/permitted).
  • Collecting/collating feedback from events and reporting back to the Communications Manager.
  • Maintaining mailing lists and contact details and reporting on their usage.
  • Supporting the Communications Manager with the creation and distribution of publications including reprographic and print (both internal and external).
  • Empowering student bodies and parent volunteers.
  • Building partnerships with local/national venues and organisations.
  • Promoting projects, trips and success stories to students, parents, staff, sponsors, governors and the wider community, including regular press coverage.
  • Building a professional and meaningful online social media presence, monitoring and evaluating its use.

Special Conditions of Service

Because of the nature of the post, candidates are not entitled to withhold information regarding convictions by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975 as amended. Candidates are required to give details of any convictions and are expected to disclose such information at the appointment interview.

Because this post allows substantial access to children, candidates are required to comply with departmental procedures in relation to Police checks. If candidates are successful in their application prior to taking up post, they will be required to give written permission to the Department to ascertain details from the Metropolitan Police regarding any convictions against them and, as appropriate the nature of such convictions.

The role

We are looking to appoint an organised, highly-motivated individual to work as a Marketing and Communications Officer alongside our Communications Manager and dedicated support staff. Working with the academy’s Communications Manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of the academy’s communications including external marketing, internal communications, parental engagement, events planning, press liaison, website and social media development and maintenance.

In addition to this role, all staff are expected to fulfil the role of Personal Adviser to a small group of students, acting as a professional mentor and contributing to the delivery of a caring and stimulating learning environment for young people.

This is a full time (all year round) position reporting to the Communications Manager. The successful candidate will be required to start as soon as possible.
