Isle of Wight Residential Trip

Isle of Wight Residential Trip

October 2017

Dear Parent/Guardian

Isle of Wight Residential Trip

I am pleased to be able to offer the GCSE geographers of Years 9 and 10, the opportunity to go on a residential visit to the Isle of Wight with PGL, who have an excellent outdoor education centre based on the island.

The pupils will have twohalf days of outdoor study developing their field skills and knowledge of chalk cliffs and beaches coastal features, geological features and fossil identification and collection. The pupils will be taught in small groups and have leaders who will help develop and challenge pupils to higher level of understanding. The PGL experienced staff lead the whole trip.

Alongside those activities, the pupils will be given a range of outdoor and water based experiences including rope work, abseiling, canoeing and/or dragon boat racing! There are other team-based activities also packed into the trip. Last year the pupils completed ten different sessions, which included high wire, archery and ‘Matrix’.

Pupils will share superb log cabins and are provided with full board throughout the trip. The accommodation is great as is the whole site at Little Canada. The ferry from Southampton to the Isle of Wight is comfortable and it is only a short trip across to the island.

The school can take up to 30 pupils and would aim to travel by minibusto Southampton. We plan toleave very early on Wednesday, 18 July and return very late on Sunday, 22 July (that is the end of the summer term).

The cost of the trip is £380, which covers transport, full board, hoody and any extra activities. The aim of every school trip is to ensure that our pupils have a great learning experience combined with memories of fun packed activities. We always aim to provide real value for money and will do our very best to keep prices at their minimum.

If you would like your child to go on the trip, please complete the form below and attach a cheque payable to ‘Penwortham Priory Academy’ or pay cash in a named envelope to the school office by Wednesday, 8 November with £100 as a deposit. Once a place on the trip is secured, the rest of the money is required by 8 March 2018.

Please ensure you can make the total payment for this trip as the contract is withPGL, NOT PENWORTHAM PRIORY ACADEMY. Please note you will be liable for full payment of the trip once the place has been confirmedand the deposit has been paid. Should you decide to withdrawyour child at any time, the trip will still have to be paid for in full. It will also be parental responsibility to ensure an insurance policy is in place for any medical reason or non-attendance for this trip.

The payment schedule is:

Deposit £100 to be paid by 8 November 2017

Payment 1 £80 by 8 December 2017

Payment 2 £100 by 8 January 2018

Payment 3 £100 by 8 March 2018

Kind regards

Mr A Watters
