  1. What evidence did your team see of students demonstrating college ready skills and knowledge and the CCSS (e.g., student-to-student discussion, multiple perspectives, use of evidence, claim and counter-claim, use of discipline-based vocabulary, engagement with complex text, etc.)?
  2. What are the connections between what you observed and the schools you are coaching?
  3. What learnings did you take away from this visit and what are the implications for your coaching?

10:15-12:00:Completing Lesson Plan Templates

  • Lesson Plan Template
  • Review:
  • Notes from January meeting on what should be in lesson plans to increase the likelihood that students will engage in higher order thinking, inquiry, and demonstrate the CCSS.
  • Lesson plan templates from ISA schools and other templates
  • ISA tools on non-cognitive skills for college
  • Come to consensus on what should be in a lesson plan template to increase the likelihood that the lesson will provide students with experiences with the CCSS, inquiry, higher order thinking, and non-cognitive skills students will need for college
  • Design/adapt a lesson plan template that incorporates these features
  • Be sure to check for the following:
  • How does the template ensure that questions are those that the teacher will actually ask?
  • How does the template ensure that the activities and worksheets are those that the teacher will actually use?
  • How does the template ensure that the teacher is conscious of the learning opportunities for students to demonstrate inquiry and/or higher order thinking, and/or CCSS, and/or non-cognitive skills?
  • Give Faith the template

Protocol:

  1. Presenting coach identifies the outcome he/she wants/wanted to achieve in the situation,
  2. Presenting coach tells the story in which the problem is embedded,
  3. Colleagues ask questions for clarification or more information,
  4. Presenting coach states his/her analysis of the problem, linking analysis to evidence,
  5. Colleagues may offer alternate analyses of the problem linking to evidence in the story,
  6. Using evidence, group discusses the validity of different analyses of the problem,
  7. Group offers solutions linked to the analyses of the problem.

  • What are the top 3 issues to discuss with the principal to ensure that the SI is productive?
  • From your perspective, what do the most important take-aways need to be for school leaders, teachers, counselors you work with? (CHART)
  • How do we ensure that that leaders, teachers and counselors come away with products that will be useful and that they will use during the school year? (CHART)
