Primary Function:

  • Provides leadership for program development, professional development, and staff support in the fields of vision and hearing services.
  • Supervises and evaluates Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Teachers of the Deaf, and other educational staff within an assigned geographical region of Iowa including those at academies and schools.
  • Develops and fosters partnerships with related organizations including Area Education Agencies (AEAs), Local Education Agencies (LEAs); Charles City Community Schools, the Iowa Department for the Blind; the Iowa Department of Education; Vocational Rehabilitation, parents; and professional and para-professional staff.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in education or special education plus at least three years of teaching experience in special education required. Candidates must meet State of Iowa requirements for administrator licensure and teacher licensure by time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to hold or seek evaluator endorsement upon appointment. Frequent travel within Iowa, including some overnights, will be necessary.

Preferred qualifications: Teaching endorsement in visual impairment or deaf education preferred. Leadership and supervisory experience in special education also strongly preferred.

Salary and Benefits:Salary will be determined by the successful applicant’s educational and experiential qualifications. A comprehensive benefit package is available, including relocation assistance.

Position Details:Full-time, Calendar-year appointment. Position starts as soon as possible. Primary office location will be Charles City, IA. Criminal and other relevant background checks required.
