The CIDA IYIP and the AUCC Student for Development Programs were created to provide international experience to students currently working on their education and Young Professionals who need to bridge that gap between school and career

Keeping that in mind, I would like you to fill out the following form as honestly and thoughtfully as possible. This will form the foundation for your internship and your work plan. It will mean the difference between getting the most out of your internship and just putting in the time.

Desired Internship Outcomes:

Educational Career:

  1. Where are you in your educational career and where do you want to be when you have finished? For example: you have finished your Bachelor’s degree, is a Master’s in your future? Do you want a Ph.D.
  2. What do you need from this internship to accomplish this task?
  3. List at least 3 outcomes you would like to achieve at the end of this internship? Ie: Lecturing and curriculum development, hands on-experience with adult learners etc.

Professional Career:

1.Where are you in your Professional career and where do you want to be when you have finished? For example: you have experience as a Professional Engineering, but need more experience in the area of remote sensing. You have experience as a Health Professional in Canada, but would like to have an international component to your CV.

2.What do you need from this internship to accomplish this task?

3.List at least 3 outcomes would you like to achieve at the end of this internship? Examples of course curriculum, signed contracts in a multi-disciplinary sector, contacts with CIDA, World Bank, a job etc

Personal Development:

  1. Where are you in terms of your personal development and where would you like to be when the internship is completed?
  2. What do you need from this internship to accomplish this task?
  3. List at least 3 outcomes you would like to achieve at the end of this internship? Examples: more culturally sensitive, more financially aware/responsible, more environmentally aware/responsible, etc.

Adaptive Management:

The activities of your work plan should directly reflect your desired outcomes relating to the Educational, Professional and Personal components of your life. Once you have identified your personal internship outcomes, we can work on the details of your work plan. There will be 3 self-evaluation points during your internship – August 31st, December 31st and at the end of your internship. If you are not achieving your objectives during the first 2 self-evaluations, your work plan will be adjusted to ensure you received the desired outcomes of the internship. Please include in as much information on the form as possible. It will provide for a better internship experience.
