CWSA Meeting 4/7/15

In attendance: Caroline Nowyckyj, Julie Hughes, Terri Homiski, Marie Pelletier, Walter Tokarz, Christina Haynes, Christine Sposito, Jessica Hornung, Kathy Doherty

Field Usage-

  • In Columbia we have use of MP field and the rookie outfield (7v7 field) and 11v11 field when not being used by softball, though most of time will be used by softball. But will be available for Sunday games for U-14 comp teams and Saturday mornings for Micro.
  • In Windham we have use of Lauter but we feel it’s not a good choice because of the condition of field as well as lack of storage. We will have Shetucket and 2 fields will be lined on it. We will request 8v8 sizes if they fit.
  • Shetucket Keys- Christina Haynes has one set and is willing to keep them. We believe Jerry P has the other set (please confirm, Jerry) and hopefully will be ok with being the 2nd person in charge of keys. All coaches who practice at Shetucket will be given the contact info for Christina and for Jerry and will need to arrange to get keys prior to practices/games and return them. Kathy may have a set; she will see if they work. If they do, we’ll decide who should be the key holder of the 3rd set.

Micro Soccer-

  • Walter and Jerry will hold a meeting with Christina/Greg and Christine on 4/28 at 6:30pm. We discussed the past outlined program which had been voted in vs the new program created recently.
  • Tentative start of the season will be Saturday 5/2.
  • Late registration will be allowed Saturday 5/2 and Tuesday 5/5 with registration closing completely 5/5. There will be 2 volunteers on Saturday 5/2 to assist with this. Caroline will help find these volunteers. Windham will have a bilingual volunteer.
  • There is a lot of interest to start U-8 teams. It was determined that the kids/coaches are not available in spring due to baseball so this is something we will plan to do in fall. Kids offered a spot are those who are referred by their micro coaches.
  • Practices will be on Tuesdays from 6p-7p and Saturdays from 9a-10:30 (mini’s from about 9-9;45 or 10, Saturdays only)

Spring Season-

  • We need a U-10 boy coach and a U-12 boy coach. Caroline will send out one more email with a request for volunteers. All other age groups are set.
  • U-19-Sebby needs to be kept in the loop….Walter will do this.

Dates:

  • Monday 4/20-Coaches’ meeting at pavilion at rec park.
  • Wednesday 4/23-Coaches’ scheduling meeting at Starhill.
  • Thursday 4/24-Rec teams will not have an opportunity to practice prior to the jamboree. We will schedule a meet up time for coaches and players in order to get acquainted and distribute uniforms. If okay with Jerry P who secured the WMS for comp practices through April, we will plan this for Thursday 4/23: 6-6:30 for U-10 teams, 6:30-7:00 for U-12 and U-14 teams. This is not a practice, it’s a meet and greet.
  • Saturday 4/25 & Sunday 4/26-Season begins with the Starhill Jamboree on 4/25 and 4/26. Girls will play on 4/25 and boys will play on 4/26. This includes both rec and comp teams. We will sign all of our teams up.
  • 5/2 & 5/3-Regular season games will begin.

Equipment-

  • we are all set. Terri will have everything ready to give to coaches at coaches’ meeting.
  • Julie and Caroline will press patches on navy uniforms and logos/numbers on away jerseys. They will plan to have these done by 4/24.

Tournaments-

  • U-12 girls and U-14 boys are the only 2 teams that have expressed an interest in participating in the CTCup. Coaches need to sign up their teams then tell Kathy and she will pay registration fee.

Summer Clinics-

  • CWSA will be holding summer clinics, date to be determined. Most likely will be first week of August or last week of July. We are utilizing our coaches in our program as well as HS players who have come through our program. Jerry P, Walter and Julie are coming up with plans for each day. First meeting was held 4/6. Prices will be less expensive than surrounding camps and will be a fundraiser for CWSA.

Candy-

  • we still have candy to sell. Caroline reached out to baseball to see if they want to buy it at cost. We just need to get rid of it. Will also send one more email to club asking if anyone wants to sell it. Jessica took a box (4 cases).
