Identity – Spiritual Gifts

PLEASE MARK WHO WAS HERE ON THE ROSTER IN THE FOLDER YOU WILL GET ON MONDAY. RETURN THE FOLDERS TO CHRIS’S DESK IN THE YOUTH OFFICE AT THE END OF EACH NIGHT 

GUYS!!! The guy power groups will be regrouping before the boys leave for the night to let out a bit more energy. So end your group time in prayer at 8:15 if you want to participate in some Dodgeball before closing for the night. Try to do the intro activity, a passage (maybe not all the questions), and one of the application questions at the end before heading out (this is my ideal, it may not be realistic).

This week we are talking about spiritual gifts. I would love for the students to walk away with a better understanding that we have all been instilled with talents and we are called to use our talents to glorify God. We all have different gifts from God and those are to be celebrated!

INTRODUCTION ACTIVITY

To begin each night of power groups we want the students to be able to share life with one another in addition to doing some Bible time.

High, Low, and How God Has Been at Work

Each group member (leader’s too!) will take a turn answering these questions. Everyone else needs to listen while someone is sharing!

  1. only do this question if needed within your group. This is for you to help get to know your students!
Full name, grade, and school (girls are all in the same grade in their groups, but the boys are not.
  2. High of the week: the best thing about your week since last Monday.
  3. Low of the week: the worst part about your week since last Monday.
  4. How have you seen God at work this past week? (Students may be uncertain about how to answer this question, but inform them to be watching for things because thisquestion will be here each week!)

BIBLE TIME – Open in prayer, please!

As far as reading the Scripture goes, make sure everyone has a Bible in front of them (there are loads in front of the chapel in the foyer). Students can read verse by verse individually, as a group, or 1-4 people can volunteer and read bigger selections. Always allow students the opportunity to pass, but do encourage them to read!

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11

Verse 1:

~Why do you think it was so important to Paul to inform the Corinthians about spiritual gifts?

Verse 2:

~ The Corinthians were led away from a faith in Jesus by idols that were popular in their culture. What are some things in our culture that can lead us away from a faith in Jesus?

~ When it comes to spiritual gifts, why is it important that we stay away from idols that can distract us from our faith in Jesus?

Verse 4:

~ Why doesn’t God give all of us the same gifts? (to bring us together as a family) (leaders if you have other answers, that is totally fine!)

Verse 5 & 6

~ What do you think Paul means by service and working?

~ Why do you think God has different kinds of service and different kinds of working? (to reach and love all of the unique people he has created)

Verses 7-11

~ What does it mean to be manifested by the Holy Spirit? Why is this for our common good?

~ Spiritual gifts are talents that God has put in us for the glory of his Kingdom, Gods gifts to us are not limited by what has been written in this chapter. What is a spiritual gift God has given you?

~How can you use this Spiritual gift for the glory of God?

~Why is it important to develop the gifts that God has given us?

APPLICATION QUESTIONS

  • How can you use one of your spiritual gifts to love God this week?
  • How can you further develop some of the talents that God has given you?
  • What other characters in the Bible have the same spiritual gift like you? What can you do to be more like them?
