II.Children in Need

Year 7’s Seb/Henry came to talk to SC about their plan to hold after school fundraising event – where they would sumo wrestle, SC said it was a great idea and would support them in any way they needed – Completed action HB & HG seen Head Teacher and discussed Seb/Henry’s idea school will treat it as a rental, Seb and Henry need adult supervision for event

Year reps had asked what pupils wanted for Children in Need Day (November 17th) many ideas were suggested – posters, cake sale, football match, design a mascot, sweet jar – SC agreed all ideas were good but too many we will focus on a few – action : continue planning and prep for Children in Need

III.World Mental Health Day Display

Cai and Seren with help of Mrs. Taylor-john put up posters

IV.Well-Being Questionnaire

Feedback from year groups was that it’s a good idea – but students felt a bit rushed when completing the survey, results for the Survey will be produced in December. May be a good idea for Head/Deputies to see results/ school council

V.Cowbridge 10K

HB/HG attended along with 2 other pupils – event was hugely successful and it was good to see CCS engaging with the community

VI.Jack Griffiths Memorial

For the memorial garden more money needs to be fundraised, there is another memorial football match which the last raised lots of money, idea for a donation box/bucket for Jack to be taken to all CCS events to enable people to donate. Action: create the donation box/bucket for Jack

VII.Suggestion Box

Whole school photo was suggested – it could be possible but last whole school photo was 7 years ago for the opening of the new school, the photo is a logistical nightmare and also will cost the school. Another suggestion was for repainting form numbers on car park floor for fire alarms/drills as they have faded. HB/HG brought this to attention of Head Teacher and it will be done soon. Dance in P.E was suggested – action sports committee to take to P.E department. More revision sessions were asked for – this is up to individual subject teachers/departments. And the last suggestion was a Microwave to be installed in scholars for students use – This would be a problem due to the food/hygiene standards and could decrease Cowbridge’s rating. It would need constant upkeep and hence is unrealistic.

VIII. Feedback on Transition day 28th/30th June

SC members helped out on the year 6 transition day last year, they introduced the school council to pupils – clearly has been successful as this year for year 7 we had lots of candidates applying for the year rep position. Action: ensure SC have sustained involvement in transition day for future years

IX.Updates

Jaz Cuggy saw huge success with fundraising in school for Miss teen GB – to add to this Cleo Fish is hosting a cake sale on 27th of October to raise money for The Christie Cancer Charity as part of her Miss Teen Cardiff Galaxy. Dan Richards has been promoting Cowbridge Cadets through posters and assemblies.

2 new members have been elected onto the Vale Youth Cabinet both Cowbridge students Ben Lloyd and Ushenka Rajapakse. Youth Mayor elections – Ushenka was standing action : facilitate voting during LD week and also advertise/ get behind Ushenka’s campaign

X.Wear Read Day 2017

This is part of Show racism the red card anti-racism education campaign. CCS would love to be involved/ support campaign, but can’t have own clothes day/wear red day. Idea to sell red cakes/ food in the canteen – action speak to catering committee/Mrs. Evans about this idea

XI.Student Ambassador Scheme

CCS signed up to Professor Sally Hollands (Children’s Com for Wales) SA Scheme promoting the UNCRC. CCS held an election for the two Student Ambassadors. Zoe and Caleb were elected it’s their responsibility to advertise the UNCRC and also complete missions from Sally with help of CCS.

XII.AOB

School council photo at end of meeting – action upload photo and update website. Updates on the LRC transformation, sixth formers were unsure if it was breakout area or not? HB/HG took to Head teacher – the room is timetable but there is no reason why if computers are free 6th can go under supervised usage
