Unit Two
Teaching objectives:
- Understand the relationship between parents and children from the parents’ perspective and the children’s perspective.
- Understand and learn the “the narrative present” or “the dramatic present”.
- Learn how to compare different things, such as different attitudes, things or events before and after a specific time, finding out signals for the turning point.

Key structures in Text A:
1. “my teeth ached” is used to show extreme annoyance, comparable to the sharp pain of an aching tooth.
I hate the scrape of chalk on the blackboard; it makes my teeth ache.
- she left the bedroom a ridiculous mess, the comforter on the floor, the sheets tosses aside.
划线部分为独立主格结构。独立主格结构一般由“名词+形容词/分词/介词短语”构成。如:He left the room, his nose bleeding, his hands shaking.
The teacher came into the classroom, a book in his hand.
- Token of her childhood will await her. So will we, with open arms. “so+be/have/do/will/其他助动词+sb./sth/”结构主要用来说明前面所说的人或物的情况同样也适用于后面的其他人或物, 意为“...也一样”。此句型为英语倒装句的一种。如:
Next week, he will fly to NewYorkand attend a meeting there. So will I.
如果前面第否定句, 则可以用“nor+be/have/do/will/其他助动词+sb./sth/”结构。如:
‘I don’t know who objects to the plan. Nor does anybody else.

Directions: You are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition with on the topic On the Generation Gap. You should write at least 130 words, and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:
