Bulletin

November 2016

Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a good half term holiday and from the ‘Autumn pictures’ you have sent in it looks like you all had great fun out and about. I am in the process of making a video using these pictures and I will put it on our school website shortly.

A big thank you from the school and the church for the donations we were able to pass on to the Lutterworth Food Bank. We know any donations are really appreciated and it was great to be able to support a local charity.

Spelling

As you will have seen advertised we held a workshop for parents on spelling – thank you to all who came. We are keen to share with you ways that you can support your children at home through games and activities you can do with them.

Our results

We had a letter last week from Nick Gibb MP who is the Minister of State for School Standards. In the letter he congratulated us on 100% of the children achieving the phonics standard last year, putting our school in the ’top 3 per cent of all primary schools in the country’. Reading, as you know, is a really critical element of what we offer here and so this is fantastic. I would like to thank all the staff and yourselves for your help with supporting your child with their grasp of phonics and reading.

Results published by central government are beginning to be released in terms of our school’s performance. Our Key Stage 2 results show that the cohort made progress above the national progress scores in Reading, Writing and Maths. In Key Stage 1 our results showed the percentage of children reaching ‘Age related Expectations’ was significantly higher than the national average for Reading, Writing and Maths. In Early Years Foundation Stage the percentage of children achieving a ‘good level of development’ was higher than the national average.

I feel it is important to point out that although these results are really good and we should be pleased we do believe as a school that our role is to develop children as a whole and to nurture them into become lifelong learners; exams and tests shouldn’t get in the way of this.

On the back of these results we, as a staff, are focusing our professional learning on the teaching of writing. This half term for example we have been reading research and discussing ways to make our teaching of grammar even better. We plan to put this learning into action and observe the impact this has on your child’s learning.

School Dinners

As you will have noticed we are trying to develop and improve our systems for schools dinners. Following parents suggestions, in the coming months we are hoping to roll out an internet based system that will allow you to order and/or pay for school dinners online. We think this may help you be able to monitor which days your child is having school dinners and make payment easier. Of course once we have more details we will ensure you all know how to use the system and make the transition as simple as possible. If you have any comments about this then please let myself or Miss Daniels in the office know so that we can consider them when we set up the system.

Sports report – by Class 4

In October, children from KS2 took part in the South Leicestershire cross country race at Market Harborough. The children competed against 80 children and ran incredibly well. We are very proud of them. They are looking forward to the next race.

On Tuesday 8th November, 6 children from Class 4 entered the LASA Indoor Athletics Competition. They competed against 3 other schools and participated in different sprint and fields events. Harrison, Toby, Ben, Reuben, Harriet and Bethany competed well and were a credit to the school.
