How to Become a Member of the Royal Danish Yacht Club

We welcome individual as well as company memberships of the Royal Danish Yacht Club. We apologize in advance for not having more information available in English on our website at present, but we are working on it.

If you are seriously interested in yachting – in a sailing boat, a motor sailor, a power boat or a motor yacht or just in being a spectator – you are eligible for membership.

If you have any questions after having read this, please feel free to phone or email us. Mrs. Kirsten Hedegaard or Mrs. Vibeke Laursen in our secretariat are ready to answer questions on +45 4586 8757 or via

Since the start in 1866, we have had special procedures for new members. We take your application seriously and in addition to your interests, we also want to ensure that our new members live up to our social behaviour and sporting standards. As a consequence, it is a tradition that you can only become a member if two existing members recommend you.

However, today it is possible to apply even though you do not know two members in advance. Upon receipt of your application, we will contact you in order to brief you more about the yacht club and get to know you.

The fist thing you have to do is simply to send an email to our Secretary General, Mr. Ted Gräslund, and request an individual membership or a company membership.

Please send the email to: and state:

  1. Your full name
  2. Your address
  3. Why you are interested in becoming a member of the RDYC
  4. Whether you already know RDYC members who can recommend you and their name(s).

The present annual cost of an individual membership is approx. EUR 180, and for company members the minimum cost is approx. EUR 675. A company membership includes full rights for 5 individuals.

The benefits for individual members are many:

  • Access to the club houses of the Royal Danish Yacht Club
  • Invitation to participate in Club activities at sea and on shore
  • Access to activity centres such as the Royal Matchrace Center, the sailing school, the youth sailing centres or sail share. Obviously there is an additional (minor) cost when using these services
  • The right to buy and wear the Club tie and other symbols
  • The right to buy and use the special Royal Danish Yacht Club flag with three stars
  • The right to buy and use the Club logo – on your boat
  • Membership offers e.g. merchandising or special trips all over the world
  • Access to the membership list – however NEVER to be used for mailings, as we do not want members to receive too much spam and risk overloading
  • Special password to access the intranet part of our website
  • Plus the pleasure of being together with fellow yachtsmen and women

The additional benefits of a company membership:

  • The right to write “company member of the Royal Danish Yacht Club”
  • Invitations to company events
  • The “right” to be contacted regarding potential sponsorhips as we are always seeking sponsors and partners for our many activities, not least for the youth. However, we do not “hunt” companies – we prefer a mutually beneficial cooperation, so if you think a standard company membership is what you need, this is perfectly acceptable.

If you are interested in further benefits as a company member, please read our sponsor strategy . An English version can be obtained via our Board Member responsible for commercial activities, Mr. Sandeep Sander at .

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to phone or email us. Mrs. Kirsten Hedegaard or Mrs. Vibeke Laursen in our secretariat are ready to answer questions on +45 4586 8757 or via
