2005-2006 Annual Report

Introduction

On 15 October 2005, the following Executive Committee members were elected to serve our Alumni Association (AA) for the period from 15 October 2005 to 14 October 2006:

There was a slight growth of life and annual members during this fiscal year. Student members were recruited from F5 and F7 students of our alma mater. Below is a breakdown of our membership status:

  1. Highlights of Activities & Events

2.1Alma Mater Connections – one of our major objectives is to maintain a close relationship between alumni and Hotung Secondary School (HSS).

  1. HSSSchool Management Committee (SMC) – starting the new school term in September 2005, alumna Ms Lo Lai Yu, Rita was appointed as ‘alumni member’ of alma mater’s SMC for an office term of two years.
  1. Annual Athletics Meet (Final) – was held on 24 October 2005. Judy Mok, and Rita Lo attended.
  1. Speech Day & Student Awards – on 9 December 2005, Rita Lo attended. Three student progress awards (何東中學校友會學業進步獎) were contributed by AA to: 李嘉希, 李惠凝, 文凱欣, for the remarkable efforts that they had demonstrated in their academic achievement.
  1. Open Day – 9 February 2006. Rita Lo attended.
  1. Careers Talk – 28-2-2006. Four alumni speakers from different industries, namely, immigration, bio-technology, sports event management, human resource and advertising,shared their experience with Forms S4, S5 and S6 students. Topics included professional knowledge, qualification required, prospects of career, work attitude, etc.
  1. Graduation Night – Judy Mok and Cecilia Yeung attended on 9 June 2006. Alumna, Miss Mary Anne Lo was the guest-of-honour and gave speech and prizes to students.
  1. Swimming Gala – On 14 September 2006, Rita Lo attended and participated in the alumni relay team.

2.2Alumni Fellowship

  1. Annual Dinner & AGM was held on 15 October 2005 at HK Football Club at HappyValley. Our heartfelt gratitude to Miss Cheung Po Chu who had given her audience an excellent performance of several Cantonese opera songs. We were also honoured by the presence of ex-principals Mrs K E Cheung, Miss Lau Yuen Cheuk, Mrs Ella To and Miss Fung Lin Foon.
  1. Pun Choi Mega Feast (萬人盤菜宴) 8-1-2006 – HSSAA booked 2 tables of 24 people (alumni and their family). The activity was co-organized by Radio HK, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Dept. This was the last event of this sort to be held at Tamar Site. The proceeds after cost and operational expenses was donated to 香港女童軍總會.
  1. BBQ Party on 19-5-2006 – It was held at 紀律部隊人員體育及康樂會in CausewayBay. A very happy and leisurely gathering with principals, teachers, alumni and their family members.

2.3Community Service

Care for the elderly – This year, our community service was continued with The Helping Hand Siu Sai Wan Elderly Home (伸手助人協會小西灣老人之家).

  1. Christmas Eve Party on 24 December 2005 – 10 volunteers including alumni and their family members participated. X’mas carols, entertainment and games were provided to the elderly of around 70 people in the centre. Noodle gift packs were donated.
  1. Simple massage exercises were demonstrated and taught to the elderly in March and April 2006 by Mr A Lau and Judy Mok.

3.Acknowledgements

  1. Donations in terms of gifts and cheques were received from alumni to support our activities. Our sincere gratitude to Edwina Lee, Jacqueline Tang, Irene Wong, Lucy Wong, Cecilia Yeung for their generosity.
  1. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Mr & Mrs C Young and Miss Edwina Lee for making the venues, namely HK Football Club and紀律部隊人員體育及康樂會available for our annual dinner and BBQ party respectively.
  1. We would also like to acknowledge alumna, Gloria Yau for auditing our final accounts on an honorary basis.
  1. The dedicated commitment of our Executive Committee should be applauded for their continued support, remarkable team work and professional efficiency.

Conclusion

The success of this year’s events was also contributed by the ardent support and assistance of Ms Wendy F P Ho, Mrs Ada Wong, Miss Jessica Ngai, teaching staff and HSS clerical office. Our heartfelt gratitude and sincere thanks to all of them!
