Historical Comic Book Project

  • Story - Think about the historical facts and traditions that we learned about in the textbook and during class lecture. Use this information to develop an original story that encompasses details about the Japanese culture and society. Your story can be about the societal elite of the emperor’s court, the adventures of a samurai warrior, the life a commoner living in the fishing villages. It is important that your story has a setting, rising action, a climax, and a resolution.
  • Artwork - Use your artistic skills to illustrate the story that you created. Use color to cover the pages with life and detail. You may use black and white pictures if you utilize the art of shading and include fine details to complete your artwork. Please make sure that you have sufficient drawings to tell your entire story.
  • Book Format - Format your book so that inside the cover is your information page that includes your heading and title in a cool way. There is a minimum requirement of three cells of artwork per page and you are limited to one full length page of art (per every six pages). You must include one full length advertisement somewhere in your book. Lastly, your comic book must be a minimum of ten pages long. It may be longer but not shorter. There can be NO blank pages in the book.
  • Cover - The cover should be a full length page with color and/or shading and fine detail.

Alternate Novel Project

  • Story - Using the same book format (folding five pieces of paper), write out an original story that encompasses the historical facts and other information found in the textbook and classroom discussions. This version of the assignment does NOT require pictures within the covers of your book. Your story can be about the societal elite of the emperor’s court, the adventures of a samurai warrior, the life a commoner living in the fishing villages. It is important that your story has a setting, rising action, a climax, and a resolution.
  • Artwork – Use your artistic skills to illustrate a cover depicting the theme of your story. The cover should be a full length page with color and/or shading and fine detail. You must include one full length advertisement somewhere in your book.
  • Format - Format your book so that inside the cover is your information page that includes your heading and title in a cool way. Your hand-written font must be a reasonable size, therefore it cannot be larger than the lines on notebook paper. The story must span the entire length of the book, so there can be NO blank pages.
