Related to Students

  • Cypress College’s degree and transfer completion, persistence, 30 unit completion, basic skills progress, and CTE progress were all higher than the statewide rates (from the Scorecard data)
  • The proportion of white students is decreasing while the proportions of Hispanic and Asian students are increasing.
  • 46.8% of all students are first generation
  • The proportion of students who aim to obtain a degree and transfer has been increasing since Fall 2012 and now represents over half of the college population (52%)
  • 70% of our top 10 feeder high schools are from our service area
  • The proportion of students coming from Norwalk has increased 49.5% from Fall 2011 to now
  • Most students place into ENGL 58
  • Most students place into MATH 15

Related to the staff

  • the gender distribution is near 50-50% for employees overall
  • The College employs similar amounts of administrators and academic employees when compared to the District and the State. However, the College employs slightly less classified employees compared to the state.
  • Most employees are white overall; however, for classified staff, there is no majority ethnic group. Classified staff members are more diverse.
  • Most employees are between 40 – 59 years old. This is especially true for administrators where only 10.8% are younger than 40.

Institutional Effectiveness

  • We did not meet the standard for successful course completion (71.2%, we were at 70.4% in Fall 15 and 70.5% for Spring 16)
  • Students are most successful in their health science, physical education and CTE courses
  • Students are least successful in their business/CIS, social science, and SEM courses
  • Cypress College exceeded its standards for degree and certificate completion by 356 degrees and 157 certificates (standards were 845 for degrees and 520 for certificates)
  • Students are most commonly earning degrees in liberal arts: social and behavioral science, liberal arts: math and science, and business.
  • Students most commonly earn certificates in automotive technology, hotel, restaurant, and culinary arts, and automotive technology
  • Cypress College’s standard for transfer is 863 transfers to UC and CSU per year. We exceeded that standard by 31 transfers.
  • FTES has been increasing since 2012-13, reaching its highest point in 5-years for the 2015-16 school year (11,562 FTES)
  • The SEM, Social Science, and Language Arts divisions produce the most FTES.
  • WSCH per FTEF has been declining since 2011-12, declining 5.3% from 2014-15 to 2015-16; thus, we are becoming less productive.
