News Letter

Hello NSMHA Members,

We hope all of you are enjoying your summer so far. The NSMHA would like to let you know some of the things we are working on right now and advise you of some deadlines fast approaching as we get closer to the start of our hockey season.

Fall AGM will be Tuesday September 15th @ 7:00 pm. More info to follow

  • The deadline for motion submissions is September 8th.

Teams to date

  • 1 - I/P-Pre-Novice team - 19 players combined
  • 1 - Novice team – 16 players
  • 2 - Atom teams – 25 players
  • 2 - Peewee teams – 27 players
  • 1 - Bantam team – 18 players
  • 1 - Midget team (Tentative) – 11 players
  • We are in contact with Beaumont, Strathcona, Camrose, Millet and Wetaskiwin looking for 4-5 more players to form the team.

Due to a high level of player registrations at some levels, we are accepting player movement requests. If a player would like to play at a higher level you can do so by submitting a request to the Level Directors.

The Executive will review all applications to ensure it will be beneficial to the Association and the player’s development to move a level. Deadlines for all requests will be September 14th. All requests will be based on a first come first served basis.

Ice Schedule

  • We have just submitted our ice schedule to the Ag Society and have booked all of our ice. The tentative start date as of right now will be September 19th. That date will start our Atom and Peewee free skates for the upcoming evaluations which will begin Tuesday the following week.

AA tryouts in Beaumont (Peewee, Bantam and Midget)

  • We have put in place a soft deadline of August 14thto get your AA tryout forms in and signed off on. (This is so Beaumont can get an idea of the numbers wishing to tryout). If you would like to tryout after that date please let me knowASAP. Tryouts will likely be the first week of September. Please check with the Beaumont hockey association website for dates and times.

You can forward all completed forms to to get signed.

  • Also a reminder to those who would like to have an opportunity to coach in the AA program with Beaumont to get your applications in to them ASAP. (Only open to those who have a child trying out at the AA level)

Still in need of Coaches for NSMHA

  • Coaching applications for our association have a deadline of August 31st. You can find a copy of the form here on our website. Please forward to Matt Nordstrom @

Referees needed for the upcoming season

  • NSMHA is in need of referees for the upcoming season. If you are 12 years and older you are eligible to ref in our association. We have a clinic date set for Saturday, October 17thin New Sarepta. Please contact Cindy Lauer mailto: Darryl Holt (RIC) mailto:r more information.

Fundraising News

  • We will have first round of pizza kit order forms ready for the AGM with orders going in before the season starts

Pond Hockey Program (Tentative)

  • New this season is our Pond Hockey Program. This program is designed for the child or family who do not want to commit to the expectations and requirements of the traditional hockey program. It will be one 1.5 hour ice slot per week on Saturdays @12:15-1:45 and open to all skill levels. We have been trying to get this program running for the last couple of months with little interest from anyone. If you know of anyone who would like to join please contact or visit for more information.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

  • Derby grounds painting: Jennifer has been organizing beautification of the Derby grounds for the last 2 months or so. We are still in need of some painting done so please if you can help contact Jennifer Charette @
  • Just a reminder that our next major volunteering opportunity will be New Sarepta Minor Hockey Demolition Derby on Sunday, September 13th.This is one of our major fundraisers and we need a lot of volunteers to make it successful. Please contact Jennifer Charette @ visit to sign up.

Policies and Procedures manual almost complete. It will be available on the website very soon.

Exciting upcoming events

30th Annual Demolition Derby

Sunday, September 13th come on out and enjoy the crashing and bashing of cars and trucks. We have a few local entries and if you would like to be one of the participants or just a spectator please visit the NSMHA website for more information.
