Job Summary

Under the direction of the Road Assistant Superintendent the Seasonal Road Maintenance Technician will primarily drive a plow truck and occasionally operate equipment to plow snow on designated back country roads and occasionally fill in other plow routes throughout Valley County, on an on-call basis with no guaranteed hours. Tasks may also include repairing potholes, driving various vehicles, and operating heavy equipment as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

·  Operates semi - trucks and single or double axle dump trucks.

·  Operates heavy equipment such as front end loaders, oil distributors, road sanders, graders and rollers.

·  Operates trucks with snow plows attached for snow removal.

·  Performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs on assigned equipment.

·  Reports equipment mechanical problems to shop for repair.

·  Assists less experienced personnel in the care and operation of assigned equipment.

·  Performs all duties with regard to accepted safety practices and in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.

·  Using tools and equipment patches potholes.

·  Remove trees and brush in right of ways.

·  Responsible for working safely and in compliance with Safety rules at all times.

·  Must be able to develop and maintain working relationships with the public, fellow employees, and supervisors.

·  Must be reliable and arrive to work on time.

·  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

·  High School Diploma or equivalent.

·  One year of experience in operating light to heavy equipment.

·  Knowledge of equipment operating principles and practices.

·  Ability to perform manual tasks for sustained periods of time.

·  Ability to perform minor equipment maintenance functions.

·  Must be a self-starter and take responsibility for assigned work.

·  Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License.

·  Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.

·  Must be able to operate a chain saw.

Working conditions and physical demands

·  Exposure to out of door conditions.

·  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

·  Requires the ability to walk, stoop, stand, sit, lift, reach, talk, hear, and see.

·  May live in a Camping environment.

·  Travel throughout the County.
