GraduateSchool Fair: Extra Credit Assignments

Instructions:

1. You may complete one (1) assignment or two (2) assignments. Each assignment must

be completed in its entirety.

2. Type the assignment using Microsoft Word.

3. Submit each assignment as an email attachment. Send one (1) email only.

4. Assignments are due by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2006

Assignment I

On page three (3) of this document is a list of the graduate schools and organizations participating in the graduate school fair. During the class period, visit as many schools/organizations as you can.

Write descriptive narratives (1 page or less each) about the two (2) institutions that impressed you the most. At minimum, include in your narrative

  • the school’s/organization’s location and whether or not this is important to you.
  • if it offers a graduate degree in your current or desired major.
  • if it offers opportunities for prospective students to visit the campus.
  • if financial aid available.
  • if practicums, practice teaching, etc., arerequired.
  • for masters degree programs, are there thesis and non-thesis tracks?
  • for doctoral programs, are there qualifying exams or are there other methods available for reaching the dissertation stage?
  • how many hours quarter/semester are requited to complete the programs?
  • If a license is required to practice in the field, will you be eligible to take the licensing exam, if any, after graduation?

Page four (4) of this document is a flyer announcing a speaker on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. If you are able to do so, please attend.

Instructions:

  • Take note on the speech.
  • Summarize the key points of the speech in one page or less. Include in your summary information about the speaker and a definition about networking.
