AUDITION INFORMATION

Thank you so much for auditioning for Dusty – The Original Pop Diva!

It is always fantastic to involve people in live theatre and to help, we have attached some information for you.

Most importantly: Performance Dates: 01st – 12th May 2018

Audition Preparation

Auditions can be booked online – just go onto our website at and follow the link to book your audition time.

The character list below attached will give you an idea of the roles available. Please prepare a Dusty Springfield song for audition – we will supply the pianist.

Please arrive just before your scheduled audition time, which are set at 10 minute intervals. There will be a few people in the audition room including the director, musical director, choreographer and production manager. You will be asked to sing your prepared song, dance a small routine and also read some dialogue.

Don’t worry, everyone is in the same boat!

Roles Available

Mary Obrien –Older teenage. Is the Young Dusty and is involved throughout the show in the telling of the story.
Dusty Springfield (Range: Mezzo-Soprano) – Needs an excellent pop voice that can handle the Dusty Springfield range. Must be able to sing harmonies.
Reno: (Range Mezzo – Soprano) – Must have a strong contemporary soul voice.
Rodney: Must be good at harmonies. Played as a “camp” role.
Peg: - Dusty’s friend – good pop voice and must sing harmonies
Dusty’s Mother: -More mature with a ballad voice.
Dusty’s Father: Small amount of singing – no solo work.
Back Up Singers: Dusty’s group and Reno’s group are two different singing groups. Must sing harmonies and there will be some solo work as well. Good pop songs.
Ensemble Roles: Many roles with some solo work for stronger singers.

Rehearsals

Once casting is complete, a rehearsal schedule will be provided to you.Rehearsals are due to begin on Sunday the 4th of February with the usual schedule being Tuesday, Thursday and Sundays from 7pm – 10pm (although this may change). In addition to the usual rehearsals there will be music specific rehearsals on the 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25 of March and 4th April as well as final dress rehearsals leading into the performance period, which will also require full cast. These are likely to run on Sunday 22nd & 29th of April, from lunch time through until 10pm.

Please confirm at auditions any rehearsals you will be unavailable for.

Membership

If you are selected to be involved in a production either on stage or as one of the back stage crew, you are required to pay a membership fee, which includes you in the public liability cover of the theatre.

The schedule of membership costs are as follows:

Single Show Only$15.00

Full Single Membership$25.00

Family Membership$40.00

Media Release

Choosing to be part of our production means that you will be in the public eye. There will be lots of marketing showcasing the theatre, its members and the production in order to get the community involved. This will involve advertising in papers, facebook and website as well as the productions of posters, pamphlets etc. We therefore require your permission to utilise your image or sound in a variety of media mediums. The release form is attached.

  • Become a member of the theatre no later than two weeks following the start of the rehearsal period
  • Abide by all health and safety requirements as noted by the theatre
  • Commit to rehearsal and show period as outlined, unless otherwise agreed with the production manager.
